hi there,
dad said i could get a tattoo and i want some ideas for a vai inspired tattoo.
anyone have any suggestions?
currently im thinking the vai symbol willl be good?maybe? i dont know
ideas for vai tattoo
I'd say make sure it's something you can still be proud of when you're old. Not to say that a Vai symbol wouldn't be something to be proud of.. but just think about it. You're putting it in your body forever, unless you want to pay for expensive surgery later on.

I think the "Light Without Heat" Symbol would be really cool. And then the Vai symbol under it. I agree with Tommy though, just remember it will always be there.

Yes that's such a great symbol, but it isn't easy to do on a curved surface like the arm or where ever!
I have to agree-I'm so glad I didn't get 'Tangerine Dream' tattooed on my forehead when I was 18! If you really want to do this, i'd suggest getting something that is slightly ambiguous-something that Vai fans would instantly recognise, but others would think is just interesting-like Steve's 'Vine of Life' wrapping around your upper arm.Dyin' Day 77 wrote:And then the Vai symbol under it. A vine of life white tatoo! That would be cool! Is it possible to have a white tatoo, I think I've seen already seen it... If I were to get a tatoo, it would be probably in white, or one color+white combination. But I probably will never get a tatoo, so...
My idea for a Vai tattoo would be to have it painted on and not tattooed in.
I know you asked for ideas and not advice but I'm gonna give you it anyway. Obviously you're free to ignore it if you want.
If you're definitely going to do it make sure the tattoist can 'draw' and ask him to show you him drawing something first. I had 10 of them done at the age of 17 and I thought they were really cool for about 6 months. I don't think anyone could have convinced me not to have them done at the time but I wished they had now.
I'm a pretty average guy and if anyone were to ask me what things I would change about myself if I could have any cosmetic surgery at all. I wouldn't ask them to make me look like Brad Pitt I'd say do me a favour and get rid of these tattoos will ya!

This will give you an idea of what some others did:
http://www.vai.com/FanForum/tattoo_gallery01.html
I would say the most important thing (after selecting the design) is to do some research and find a great tatooer(?). You don't want something you're less than thrilled with under your skin. Pay a little extra for the best quality.
Take a close look at the covers (and gatefolds) of Fire Garden, Passion and Warfare, The Ultra Zone, Sex & Religion etc....

I once thought of having an EP7 tatoo on my stomach and having my belly button as the sound hole. but since i now have a slight beer belly i have gone off the idea!

I wish someone would have told me that before I tattooed my hubby's name on my arm!Tommy wrote:I'd say make sure it's something you can still be proud of when you're old. I'd get Animal from the Muppets, with a KFC bucket on his head!

cheers for ideas guys.
and yes i have thought alot about whether i may not like it later on.
In saying this tho, Even if when im 40 and im over vai(which i wont be) it will always be a testament to the reason i picked up the guitar and my love of music.
So i guess it doesnt have to be something that will always be directly linked to Steve vai.
So im thinking of getting either the light without heat symbol or the vai symbol.
Could someone post a pic of both of these so that i can show them to the tattoo artist. They need to be VERY GOOD quality pics that are qwuite big.
And im getting it done to the left of my belly button and down a bit.

Have you looked at the vai website. There are actually a few pics of fans with tattoos.
Think long and hard, don't be offended but if dad is paying for it, you sound kind of young. Isn't it illegal in OZ for anyone under 18?!
I wanted one at 17, 22, now 30 I just couldn't do it.
But each to their own. I fully advise once you have made a decision, make sure the tattooist is reputable, this is the rest of your life.
Your reasoning sounds sweet, but at 40 will you still feel the same.

A cool idea would be to get steves EVO guitar on your arm, with the vine of life wrapped around it.
Now your thinking
