Hi Guys,
Just wondered which brand and gauge of picks everyone uses and for what reasons do you like them?

What picks do you use?
Cymbolic medium. The thin version is pretty good too. The thin version is still pretty thick compared to regular picks.
It's the best most expensive pick ever. I love the attack and dynamics this pick has. Also they allow you to really get the strings going. It's almost like having a boost pedal compared to regular picks.

I use Dunlop Tortex .60mm picks ( The Orange ones). I really like the how it attacks the string. The thickness isn't to much where it feels clumsy but its not too thin that its flimsy. I feel I have the best control with these picks.
Another Pick that I like is Dunlop Ultex .60 I had one and its one of the best picks I have ever used. They actually might be better in one way then the Tortex. Ultex seems stronger. Tortex picks wear out quick. Pick slides and pick tapping ruins Tortex picks. Eats them alive.

I used to be a big strict alternate shredder with Dunlop tortex Sharps(0.74 to 1mm but mostly the 74 purple ones) or I sharpened them with my swiss knife and even rounded the edges to increase precision when skipping strings....
then I eventually tried the notorious Dunlop Jazz III I had heard so much about, and it was like I discovered a new more precise and subtle attack, sweeping licks just unfurled smoothly and harmonics came out effortlessly.
But on a daily basis I use many different ones just for the sake of it, for example I rather uses 1.00 mm and above for the higher gauge I have on my gibson which plays mostly metal these days.

Purple Ibanez Paul Gilbert 1mm picks (the little sharp ones), as well as Dunlop Tortex 1.5 and 2mm, Planet Waves Satriani (as well as the 'Chrome Dome') and Vai Ibanez picks....Plus a bunch of others...Depends on what I'm playing and the sound I'm going for...
I`ve tried so many picks in my life but at the moment I`m down to three (and my fingers). The pick I use depend on the song I`m playing and the sound I`m after. My choices:
- Dunlop Ultex Standard 1.0 (my default pick for most situations)
- Dunlop Nylon .38 (for acoustic strumming)
- Dunlop Jazztone 206 (for clean and fat traditional jazz sounds)
Why Dunlop? They sound good enough and you can get them in most stores.

Dunlop Jazz III's and Paul Gilbert Ibanez picks. And any light-to-medium for open strumming, witch I don't do much.

Dunlop ULTEX Jazz III since 2009.
Once I tried them I couldn't play with anything else, those are easily the best picks I've ever used. I wish Dunlop could manufacture the XL version of those. If for some reason I don't have the ULTEX ones, I can survive with the traditional black stiffos, but all in all I prefer the ULTEX all the way.
