Effects newbie.... help please?
Is it possible to put a Boss DS-1 into my existing amps gain just to get a bit more bite? and what does a Tubescreamer do?...sorry to sound thick but do you have to have a tube amp? Im looking for the Vai sound, not trying to copy it (oh yeah?) but just get near it.
yes you can run a ds-1 into your current gain channel to give extra bite, Mr. Vai does this so youd be getting close by just doing that alone! and a tubescreamer is an overdrive pedal, basically designed to do exactly what you want, boost a gain channel, but its also a very warm and classic sounding overdrive pedal on its own! i own both ds-1 and ts-9 btw, and no, you dont have to have a tube amp for the tubescreamer to work, it just sounds best through a tube amps gain channel imo. on a side note, Steve now uses a prototype 'Jemini' pedal, wich is a double distortion pedal, supposably a ds-1 and ts-9 sounding pedal in one!
