Another question about slap bass

#1 Post by The bad horsie » Wed Apr 21, 2004 8:04 am

I've started learning Aeroplane by the Chilis but before I start learning the slap section I really need to know if I'm slapping right. I can do the slaps and pops ok but I'm not sure exactly where I'm supposed to hit the string. I'm currently hitting it just beyond the fret board before the pickups. Is that the right place? It sounds ok but I need to be sure.

Thanks in advance.

i don't think it matters all that much. i don't play bass but i have filled in for bassist in bands. the sound if really from the actual hit, not its position

Well... it really does matter. A string is going to deflect more towards its center...

yeah, but i don't think there is any one place that is best, as long as you hit that general center spot
