A lot of guys say they can play it.....the question is at what tempo ? lol
Its driving me nuts !!
i want to be able to play it at maybe 90%-100% of the speed of the original but my damn right hand just wont move fast enough !!
Anyone who can play it please post a link so i know its possible !

To pick faster you dont need to move your hand faster, you need to move your hand less. When you pick a string your hand only has to move a tiny bit to get to the other side of it. Look how little your hand needs to move and then do it, it will cut down on unwanted extra movement that just takes your hand further away from the string. It will probably take a little while but after that you will be able to play this peice easy peasy.
I hope that helps

I would never compensate accuracy over speed for this lick....and i know its not a competition as to who can play the fastest...
I'd just love to hear someone play it that has it down close to vai's version...why ? i dunno, to compare myself i suppose

I still find the hardest part of the song is the start. Even before you play an arpeggio.

dont keep your hands or arms tense when you play either.

I don't beleive that for one second. While that song is technicaly difficult it is well within Vai's reach to play it that fast and clean. That said, I have never seen anyone come close to the speed and accuracy of that tune.mental speedin wrote:in fairness lol Vai played it and the tempo was raised for the movie,

He CAN play it that fast, he played it live together with Mike Keneally a several times (when he was playing in Korea, afaik)...

pretty sure i read it in a magazine, not sayin its totally true.
but remember if he is playin it live he would have had years to perfect it up to speed

when your a player like steve, it doesnt take years to play one of your own pieces. or even months for that matter. for instance Bryan Beller had a couple of days to learn freak show excess for his audition. its all in what caliber player you are, and as with any thing vai related, you've gotta be the real deal. there's no room for pea shooters.
