I ordered this custom built DNA replica from Max Cottam at Cottam Guitars here in the UK last October.
It arrived yesterday.
I can't stress enough how pleased I am with the guitar It's awesome!!
Both Max & Herc are to be congratulated on the quality of it.
Plays great & am pleased with my choice of pickups which was a bit of a gamble.

The Steve's Special Bridge which I thought would go well with my Carvin amps as it's supposedly pretty hot and is also supposedly a very good pickup to play with a midrange-heavy amp seems to work really well with the Carvin amps.

The pickup combo works great & is well balanced now I have tweaked the pickup heights.
I went with a RPRW True Velvet in the middle & a PAF Pro in the neck.

I have them wired so that in Pos 2 the Mid pup and the adjacent coil on the bridge are on & hum cancelling and in pos 4 the mid pickup and the neck pickup coil closest to the fretboard are on & hum cancelling.
This gives a slightly less quacky & more "Tele" Like tone.

With Pos 3 just the SC pickup.

It was a bit of a wait but was well worth it in the end....plus net cost considerably less than a new 7VWH & a better guitar to boot I reckon!!

Wow, that's absolutley incredible!
What's Max like to work with? I'm considering getting him to put together a custom for me at some stage later in the year.

I know Max very well ..lives a couple of miles from me .
cant recomend his work and guitars enough...A real nice
guy ..
He only uses the best paint jobs and parts ..no corner cutting
here.. As he says if you want to pay cheap you get cheap.
Pay the extra and you get something unique and something to
be proud of.

Highly recomended :guitar :headbang

To be honest the more time I spend with it the more I think I still prefer my Legacy 1! :?

May even consider selling the Legacy II.

Well this is really OT but as you asked:

Check out my posts from half way down the page onwards under the user name Bucketbot in the following thread on the Carvin BBS which goes some way to explaining it.

http://www.carvinguitars.com/bbs/viewto ... &start=180" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But to summarise the principle reason is that I much prefer the old Legacy Clean Channel.
I bought the Legacy II mainly because I wanted to do a direct comparison & as it's impossible to get hold of one to try out here in the UK the only way to do that is to buy one....I am fortunate enough to be able to afford to do that! :)

My Legacy II is actually the first one to be sold in Europe & that info comes direct from Carvin. Unfortunately not signed by Vai!
After my experiments, apart from the volume issue I can't see too many advantages of having the Legacy II over the original. Plus my customised Snakeskin Legacy 1 looks waaay cooler!! :headbang
