Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards (album, podcasts ect)

I admit I was very skeptical of Joe's latest album, Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards, not least of all because of his rather lackluster output of late. Skeptical, that is, before I actually heard the latest songs.

Premonition:

This song has the potential to be a great composition. From what I've heard from the video podcasts it seems to hark back to the days of Crystal Planet, with a huge sound and crystal clear melodies. When I heard this song for the first time my pessimism instantly turned to optimism. Could it be that the old Satch is back?

Dream Song:

Yes it could!! This song is subliminally cool! Mike Keneally's key-work offers a really ethereal dream-like quality to the piece, and again Satch's melodic guitar phrasing harkens back to his glory days. Satch stated that he actually wrote this entire composition in a dream, woke up, and after about two and a half hours in the studio he had the entire song mapped out. I can really believe that hearing the piece. You can almost taste the hypnagogia!

I have high hopes for this album. After being underwhelmed by the single, Light Years Away, I can honestly say my faith in Satch as a top rock instrumental composer is almost fully restored!

Euston, we have no problems with this record!

This was recorded at George Lucas's Skywalker Studios, and I think the vastness of these rooms really shine through in the recording. Also, it sounds to me more like a studio session recording than some of the last few releases, which sounded to me like home studio projects (where they were originally conceived). Maybe Mike's input has something to do with it, and I have to say his choice of Synth sounds really add that magic touch to the overall product.

I think Satriani's guitar tone sounds great again! I wasn't a fan of his Peavey tone phase. I think his style of playing and tonal requirements are best suited to Marshalls.

Looking forward to it. Golden Room sounds interesting too!

Listening to the album right now. It's out on Itunes (at least in The Netherlands, in shops also). It sounds rather good. Better than the last two cd's at least. Somehow it reminds me of Crystal Planet and Strange Beautiful Music.

if Joe is 100% honest in the videos, it seems he let others and esp. Keneally express themselves...that and the Lucas studio...?

I love most of it so far. Haven't bought a Satriani album since Strange Beautiful Music.

In my opinion this album could be his best since "Crystal Planet". At least it´s better than the previous one.

'Nah, I don't think so. It looks like a ordinary js1200 to me, with another humbucker
installed, Could be wrong. Anyway, I listenend to the album a few times and I like it.
