I've just found this guitarist Jonas Tamas who has clearly Vai influences. I don't know if it is a good thing for someone to sound very much similar to Vai or Satch etc (I must admit he has some interesting tunes and chops as well). So cool guy but maybe a bit too Vai-ish...
By the way, I'd like to find some interesting new guitarists. I'm very much into Guthrie and Steve and would be cool if some of you would suggest me some new names in this genre. thanx!
Guitarist similar to Vai's style
Hey guthriefan, I would recommend:
- Andy Timmons (That Was Then This Is Now and Resolution)
- Blues Saraceno
- DC Slater (very Satch like)
- Matt Cafissi
- Ty Oliver
- Forrest Kyle (The Adventures of Guitarman)
- Chris Francis (Self-titled)
- Randy McStine (Guitarizm)
New discoveries:
- Marco Sfogli
- Andy James
Waiting on their first album (very much Vai like):
- Cesar Huesca
- Mika Tyyskä/Elektrik Pyjamas (Mr. Fastfingers)
Others worth checking out:
- Brett Michael Spunt
- Erik Mongrain
- Buckethead (Electric Tears, Colma)
Head over to guitar9 for samples.

Hey Hush, thanks for your long list, it is really kind of you! I will check these guitarists over the weekend. (Andy Timmons I knew, of course

Indeed, I can't wait for his new one towards the end of the year. He said it's going to return to the spirit of his first album (more rock) more than his last one.George Yiakoumi wrote:He is an awesome playerhush wrote: - DC Slater (very Satch like)
That'll be 3 albums in 3 years... way to fill the void in new music.

I am suprised that no one mentioned Mattias Eklundh. This guy reminds me alot of Vai in the way his playing is quirky and interesting, but he realy doesn't sound like Vai.
