I just got Al Di Meola's Elegant Gypsy, and this guy really blew me away..
Does anybody have any tips on other good Meola records?

Oooh you bet.

The guy is amazing, perhaps it won't please you electric guitar crowd but my favourites albums would be the ones with Paco de Lucia and John Mclaughlin :

Saturday Night in San Francisco
Passion, Grace and Fire
The Guitar Trio

If you like Jazzy music that will definitely 'float your boat' :)

Al Di Meola has released so much good stuff!!!

-Try "Romantic Warrior" which he did with Chick Corea's RETURN TO FOREVER.
-I love the three World Sinfonia albums (acoustic guitar).
-I think "Kiss My Axe" is one of his best electric oriented albums.
-And of course, the 3 recordings he did with McLaughlin & De Lucia are amazing.

But you can pretty much buy anything from him! You won't be disapointed! I love every album he's made except maybe "Scenario". :)

i think a lot of his older stuff is just overdone. he's almost in the "look what i can do!" boat with yngwie. Kiss My Axe, however, is a great album i think. And the girl on the album is really hot too.

I don't think that he's flashy at all. I went to two of his shows in a single evening when he passed by here last year. That's 5 hours of Al DiMeola. He hardly played ANY blazingly fast runs at all. He is a fantastic musician. I think he plays some of the most beautiful chords that i've ever heard too. Any CD of his with Mclaughlin and De Lucia are absolutely fantastic. Friday Night in San Francisco is an amazing album. The song "Meditteranean Sundance" is a personal favorite. The CD called "Guitar Trio" is amazing as well. The first two songs on that CD blow my mind away. Anyhow, try them out and enjoy!

Awesome! I bet it was just cool to see them though lol. Al Di Meola is great, And it is Friday Night in S.F., just f.y.i., not scolding anyone.. Mediterranea was actually the first Al Di Meola song I heard him play on. It was amazing. Still is... Check out the whole thing though, you will be impressed!
