Hmm, I usually tend to like bassists that are melodical, so some of my favourites are John Deacon (Queen), Geddy Lee (Rush), Stu Hamm (Joe Satriani) and Billy Sheehan (David Lee Roth).

If you go over to satriani.com, you'll notice everyone's named themselves after STUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUuu Hamm.

I love listening to bass and drums in tracks. I mean i'm a guitarist but also a song writer and so i like to listen to alot of music, that way i get alot of influences into my stuff and i get my own sound. For bass at this present time it would have to be Justin Chancellor from ']['([])([])']_ They might not be everyones cup of tea and he might not be the most technically gifted guy but i love the way that him and danny make the cool rhythms in Tool's collection. I also love the choice of sounds he gets. Just a wonderful variation for each album. I think he's clever at what he does and i really enjoy listening to his work, even if Tool does make you wanna die at times!!!!

Damn, I don't even know if I know that many bassists. Some of my favorites that I've seen though are:

-John Myung
-Les Claypool
-Billy Sheehan
-Robert Trujillo
-Cliff Burton (haven't seen him of course but think he's a genius)
-Tony Levin (because he worked on Liquid Tension Experiment)

Bass player and feature album that showcases the 'skills' that come to mind...

Tom Fowler on Frank Zappa's One Size Fits All [1975]

Paul Jackson on Herbie Hancock's Thrust [1974]

Les Claypool on Primus' Sailing the Seas of Cheese [1991]

Jaco Pastorius on Weather Report's 8:30 [1979] & Night Passage [1980]
