Well done. I have allways been a "Why" Kinda guy. You post who and why.. Well done.
List your top five most influential guitar artists!
Great post!!
I'm a little late but thought I'd add my most'est influential list..
1) John Pettruci (can't stop listening to anything he is involved with)
2) Steve Vai (makes the guitar sound like an extension of his soul)
3) Vinnie Moore (has been shredding longer then most, and still Great!)
4) Joe Satriani (He still blows me away with his sense of melody and sound)
5) Neal Schon (Has been my favorite for over 20yrs)
Thx,
Mark

Joe Satriani
Dimebag darrell
Steve Vai
Brett Garsed
J. from White Zombie
A fairly odd list, with J. being on there, but the dude wrote some of the catchiest riffs and I was just developing as a guitarist when WZ was getting big. And although I am more and more becoming more Vai-esque, satriani is and always will be my number one influence. His command on melody is stunning.

3. Joe Satriani
4. Pat Metheny - after listening to secret story, i realizd once again that there was much more to guitar playing once again, i thought 'man where does it end

Here's a time line:
1. Eric Clapton - First time I heard "Sunshine of Your Love"
2. Buck Dharma - "Tyranny and Mutation"
3. Carlos Santana / Neal Schon - "Moonflower", First 3 Journey records
4. Al DiMeola - "Elegant Gypsy", "Casino" bridge rock to jazz fusion
5. Steve Vai - "The Attitude Song"
In retrospect, Jeff Beck might the most creative, brilliant player I have ever seen. Honorable Mention to Steve Morse, Robin Trower, Steve Howe, Skunk Baxter, Steve Lukather, Ritchie Blackmore, FZ.
