He's awesome. I cut my teeth on AC/DC. He's the reason my first electirc guitar was a '77 Gibson SG standard. Helluva showman, great guitar sound. He was one of my first influences... back in the day (like, pre Steve Vai and Eddie Van Halen... -- well by a couple years anyways; fook I'm old).

Yah. He rocks. :headbang

AC/DC was my first big "band" inspiration (or was it Halen?).

Anyway, I love Angus Young.

Anyone tried to copy an Angus Young solo note for note. Not as easy as it sounds.

He's a legend

I used to know the entire "Back In Black" album note for note...

...those were the days.

It's especially difficult becuase he plays them while thrashing around on the ground

True showman and great guitar player. I was just jamming along with some AC/DC today. Incredible tone.

he's one of the few guys that has played for so long, and even though it's basically the same deal every time, you never get the feeling that he's used anything the same twice in a lead break ever.

I heard "Let there be rock" at a pub the other day for the first time in ages, that stuff rocks and is still very cool today.

Sometimes I wonder why Young ever became famous: he plays minor pentatonic solos, rehashes the same licks over and over (almost as bad as Yngwie :P ) and didn't even write the songs (according to a number of rumours), but in the end it all comes back to tone. Angus Young did have killer tone... 8)

What's wrong with the minor pentatonic scale?

Nothing wrong with the minor pentatonic, but I agree that AY is way overrated; hopelessly repetitive (just like their songs, whoever wrote them) and much of the time plain bland. Good tone, yeah, but if we're talking about legends, give it up for Gary Moore who has killer tone, and is a far more versatile and interesting player. (Half the songs suck, I know, but nevertheless). That being said, if AY made some of you people start playing in the first place, then at least that deserves some credit.

I'm a bass player and Angus Young has the best guitar tone there is in my opinion. He left room for the bass to be the bass, and not many guitar players do that. Most players feel like you have to have big chunky tone that sounds great by itself. You don't. That's why you have a bass player. Angus knew that.
