I have so many favorite solos:
For the love of god - Steve Vai
Beat it - Eddie Van Halen
Sweet child of mine - Slash
Get the funk out - Nuno Bettencourt
Still got the blues - Gary Moore
Just to mention a few.

Whilst " Eruption " is not my favourite EVH solo , it is bound to get a lot of votes for best / favourite solo because it revolutionised how people played the electric guitar .LongBow wrote:Just to come back to EVH "Eruption". Heard that yesterday first time (I am beyond my 30just never fancied the band). It as a CD called 100 greatest guitar solos or something like that. It was OK. It was fine. But I would not saay it is the greatest solo I ever ever heard. Surely not!
Nothing personal,
Cheers!
I was only 14 when the first Van Halen album was released , and I can still remember the jaw dropping impact of Eddie's playing in general and of that track specifically .

Wow,I just happened to click on this.....I had that song in my head when I woke up this morning.I don't know where it came from, but I've always loved it.The harmony lines are incredible and Duane's solo builds so beautifully. It has always touched me deeply!! I agree so much.shader wrote:Allman Brothers - Blue Sky.
No, it's not fast, it's not technical, it's completely inside, and theres nothing really particularly scholarly impressive about it.
But man, that is one amazing solo.
(by solo i mean the lead guitar throughout the song, btw)

Feels So Good (Chuck Mangione): http://youtube.com/watch?v=T92RvI3QmqI
Grant Geissman on guitar. The solo starts at about 1:30.
Fav Petrucci solo, without question is the ending one from Goodnight Kiss: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ix0AXYz4mbw
the one that kicks off around 5:00.
Not necessarily the most technically impressive solo he's done, but....

I second that, Reeves is totally underrated, and virtually unkown outside the Bowie world.fyrie wrote:One of the best I've ever heard is Reeves Gabrels' solo for A Small Plot of Land off of the Bowie #1 Outside Album. It starts at around 5:08 in.
