2016 Tour

#1 Post by CallItSleep » Mon Nov 02, 2015 11:22 am

I have heard Steve will be going back out on the road in 2016. Does anyone have any information about this? will it be U.S. dates? will it be in support of a new album?? etc. I'm chomping at the bit here, hoping for some more live shows!! :D

From what I recall, it's in support of the "Passion And Warfare 25th Anniversary". I believe there are supposed to be US dates, but last I heard, nothing was scheduled just yet.

I'm eager for news on this, myself, as I'm planning a road-trip w/ my mom, and would really love to catch a show (and an EVO, please! ) while we're traveling. 8)

Yes, last I heard there should be a tour next year along with the release of the remastered P&W album...I think it was supposed to be a few dozen US and EU dates around spring/summer 2016. But guess that all depends on scheduling and when the album will actually be released.

The P&W is of course an excellent album, but I am not a very big fan of
these anniversary tours, whoever the artist is.
A re-mastered album is very welcome, but drop the tour if you ask me.

I would more welcome to hear the news that Steve Vai is in studio and working
on new songs
Just Steve and a guitar, that's all my soul is longing for.

b2, I think we're all itching for a new "Just Steve and a guitar" album! :headbang

For me, I do like the anniversary tour idea. A chance to see your fave artist/band live. Awesomeness. Songs that rarely (if ever) get played live otherwise, hey, they're part of the setlist, now! Cool beans. And a chance to hear how some of those songs have evolved, over time. Coz the artist is not in the same head space now as when the songs were written. So time/experience/attitude could shift the hue. Sometimes that can really bring whole new dimension to a piece.
But... that's my opinion, of course. Everyone's got their own.

I'm just really hopeful that the US dates will be in Spring, so I can take my mom to a show 8)

I am looking forward to some of the "in between" stuff that Steve mentioned. The bridge between "Flex-able" and Passion And Warfare" Coz yeah, those are two VERY different albums! I'm very curious about some of what went on between...

Hes BOUND to tour the P&W anniversary, it was a very successful album, so hes got a built in audience that he wont have with any new material. Pretty much every rock band from the 80s/ early 90s is milking the nostalgia train now, so why not let steve have one little go ? Its the big one for him, in his career, so he cant let it go and not do one, really. Its his one and only chance, and it is a classic ! No one that has ever been on this site would NOT want to P&W (and a few other faves, like Building the Church etc)

I read somewhere in an interview that he will do around 50 dates (Just the main US & european cities, wheres hes confident of selling out decent sized theatres), and then go back and finish the album hes been working on. I got a newsletter recently saying hes been working on this new album for a while, and will release it (and then tour it) the 2nd half of 2016. So I am assuming the P&W will be the first half of 2016, and apart from the art, he has been quiet recently, so I'm guessing a Feb/Mar release for P&W maybe ? (it will take a a lot of marketing and publicity) then hit the road spring and summer, before starting the marketing machine for the new album.

Since the Story of Light tour, he has had a year or so off, so its about time we got something from him (only joking!)

what surprises me is that he edits his own DVDs? and he admits it takes months to do ? He was off the radar for nearly a year doing "where the wild things are" and again for ages for "Stillness in Motion". Now, I'm all for creative control, but surely a trusted editor (alike to the famous Mike Mesker he used to use) could do the same, while Steve works on his music ? His talents, and money making ablilty, must be put to better use writing, recording, touring, than sat in an editing suite for 6 months plus ?

Hes also been promising "Alien Love Secrets on steroids" for nearly 10 years now ! (first told me he was working on it at an EVO in Oct 2005 ! Hope this new 2016 album is it, and not part 3 of the real illusion concept albums.

Come on Steve, get your ass in gear and get some rip roaring guitar "Alien Love Secrets on Steroids" music out for us , after the P&W cycle.

Only joking Steve, we love you really.

Did you all see the P&W special edition JEM's that Ibanez put out at NAMM? A tour is bound to happen!

Read 'scheduled' as 'planned'. Nothing is set in stone yet. There are no definite tourdates yet. The plan is for 2 releases and a tour this year.
Steve is currently finishing one record and is working with Sony on a final schedule for the releases of this year. Meanwhile, the moment that tourdates come available, we'll be posting it here.

Can't wait, can't wait ...
But I"ll be patient.

I don't know why, but this morning, I decided to change the record played in my car and put P&W on.
It must be in the air. It's like I feel something coming and I am getting excited.

I can understand in a way what one means with "I'm not a fan of anniversary tours". Allthough SV never has done an official P&W tour I'm looking forward to this one.

And those anniversary UV's...... I love it!!! #guitarporn
