Swinging the guitar around

#1 Post by toddw7 » Fri Jun 10, 2011 7:46 pm

I feel sort of silly asking this:

Does anyone have any videos/photos of Steve swinging the guitar around his back, above his head, etc? I've seen clips of him doing this in the David Lee Roth days, and want to learn how! :-) I don't remember where I saw them, though, which is why I'm asking here.

Music + gymnastics = good times. I learned that in college while reading Plato.

Watch Yngwie Malmsteen's live stuff, he does it all the time! :P one that comes to mind is the G3 video

You can see some of that on "Live At The Astoria London", especially on the first song Shy Boy, and even on "Where The Wild Things Are", even though not as "radical", so to speak. You can even see Dave Weiner doing that, at the end of his solo spot (Dave's Party Piece).

I believe the OP is asking about the guitar toss , not just moving the guitar around your body......

Thanks for the replies! Yeah, the guitar toss is what I'm asking about, as in the Just Like Paradise video. I've ordered a Dimarzio ClipLock strap and shall practice profusely. I still don't understand the physics of how the guitar can flip over the body - returning to playing position - without injury.

It's all a question about momentum.
Just like you can swing a bucket around with having its contents spilling out......
G-forces at work.
