What's the point of reversed bridge pickup in the neck

#1 Post by erolbozkurt » Sun Dec 06, 2015 2:09 am

Hi,

Well, what I can say? I love my Jem ;o) I'm curious about something though: What's the point of the reversed bridge pickup in the neck?

- Ibanez Jem 7vw

neck pickup = REVERSED bridge pickup DiMarzio® Evolution® (H) bridge pickup (Passive/Ceramic)
middle pickup DiMarzio® Evolution® (S) mid pickup (Passive/Alnico)
bridge pickup DiMarzio® Evolution® (H) bridge pickup (Passive/Ceramic)

Some say it gives a darker tone, others say it gets rid of the Fender tone ;o)

I hope, it gives the "Blue Powder" tone (Live at the Astoria, London, 2001)

Thanks.

Erol

it wouldn't give a darker tone
it would probably give a louder overdriven tone--

neck pickups are weaker on purpose because the strings are more hot in that area than at the bridge

if you put a bridge pickups output in the neck- you just get a louder signal from the strings than it was designed for

this is only on the EVO JEM
not a normal JEM 7V

I also like the normal tone- very much- from an EVOLUTION NECK

Unfortunately given my sustainers only one guitar has an evolution in the neck

i have an evo bridge in the neck position in one of my guitars.
imo its the best neck pickup for overdriven amp sounds,no mud just a lovely clear very hot neck pickup.
the regular evo neck pup is a fatter/vintage type tone and i would say a better all round pup for clean and overdrive.
i knew for years the reg evo neck sounded nothing like steves evo jem but i didnt know why.if you really want that sound the bridge in the neck position nails it.
