Re: Best Locking Tuners

Right. But the truth is, I rarely even screw in my whammy bar. I just pull up on it every now and then or give a little extra vibrato to notes and chords. I don't like all the fuss of a locking trem but have really loved everything about the tuners on my Reverend. The Reverend is a fixed bridge guit...

Best Locking Tuners

I have a Reverend guitar that came with locking tuners on it. I absolutely love them and what locking tuners on my strat and tele now, too. The only problem is that Reverend has their own brand of locking tuners so I can't get the exact same kind. I'm wondering if you guys have a preference for lock...

Favorite Classical Composers/Pieces

I'm always really interested to see what people on this board listen to outside of shred. Let's try to turn one another onto some cool classical composers (Steve doesn't count). My favorite is probably Charles Ives. Favorite pieces include Central Park In The Dark, Piano Sonata #2, and the Largo for...

Let me just say that anyone dissing Suhr guitars is not the person to talk to about nice instruments.

Re: DRUGS AND MUSIC

For the record, would you be willing to share your history of using drugs and their effects on your creativity? I'm assuming your bias against drug use is an informed one.

Re: What guitars does everyone have?

Here is my most recent addition to the collection: a Reverend Unknown Hinson Signature ('11). It is made of Kornia (used by Gibson in the 50's -- tone similar to mahogany) and has P-90 pickups plus the "Reverend secret weapon:" a bass contour knob that makes it a very versatile guitar. http://i1253....

Re: Interval Practice- Bet ya can't do it!

What is your playing/teaching background? Where did you learn to focus on concepts like that? It seems that a lot of guitarists miss out of some really important principals like the ones you bring up either because they just aren't aware of such things or because bad teachers never lead them in the ...

Re: Interval Practice- Bet ya can't do it!

I really like playing through scales in intervals but I haven't tried stacking intervals like you suggest in the 2nd half of the post. I think that's a really good idea. I think that's a great way to get out of playing shapes not only because it deviates from the way most guitarists practice (playin...

Re: Sonny Sharrock -- absolutely insane guitarist

Dig this guitar solo from Sonny in this tune. The solo starts at 1:07 but at 2:00 you get a chance to hear the kinds of things I'm talking about. It's just emotion. It's just an energy freak out. It's so easy to get in touch with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLcIGXwUeOI" onclick="window.open(this...

Re: Sonny Sharrock -- absolutely insane guitarist

Now that's discussion worthy! Certainly as jazz got more developed in the late 50's on through the 60's people started turning to complex scales more and more. But in this kind of jazz, players are really searching for a more "free" sound. That is to say, they aren't concerned with outlining chords ...

Re: Sonny Sharrock -- absolutely insane guitarist

I purposely post things that are a little outside the "shred" world to this forum sometimes because I want to get fresh opinions on it. I want to be challenged to hear new things in it. But I find time and again that nobody can really explain themselves at all. As the poster above me has shown, I'm ...

Re: Sonny Sharrock -- absolutely insane guitarist

What didn't you dig about it? Elvin's drum solo is one of the best parts, in my opinion.
