Midnight by Joe Satriani is a good bet. Whispering a Prayer is ok on its own.

Bankok is a cover. But, check out what they did on the Astoria DVD. They played the into to Fire Garden Suite as well and ended after a bit of that. That may be better. Otherwise, some other easy Vai songs would be....Giant Balls of Gold is really easy, save for a few small tapping parts which arent...

Uhhh...none of it is too tricky. You gotta have pretty good legato, tho. You should be able to play the whole thing with just your fretting hand. There is some two hand tapping towards the end that will be a little more tricky, but its not too bad.

Yea...Im not too worried about getting to sound exactly the same, but it is a cool technique that I'd like to have a better grip on.

Well, Ive got a prestige, so it should be fairly close to his. I can get the same pitch by pulling the string off the neck and using the neck pickup ast the new fret, but I cant get the sustain. I know he doesnt use a sustainer for this track...Ill try crankin up the gain see if that helps.

Im not sure where he taps on the fifth fret, but for a majority of the song, you can just use legato with the left hand. I play that without using my picking hand at all....but Ill go back and check it out. Havent played it in a while.

Blue Powder

Ive learned all of Blue Poweder no problem, but the one spot I have trouble is at the end of the intro. Ive always seen that you pull the string off the fretboard, but I cant get the right sound. Any tips?

It entirely depends on which one you get. I own an NJ from 01 or 02 and its great. The trem is crap, but it has great sustain, tone, and amazing durability.

Boil them before you put them on your guitar for about 15-20 minutes. Gets rid of that new string tone and stretches them for ya too.

Well, on my BC Rich with a crappy liscenced Floyd, the angle didnt matter, but on my new Prestige, it definitely matters. on my BC, I always kept it at an angle so that I could pull back farther and so that the bar was closer to the strings, so I could hold the bar and easily pick. So, naturally, wh...

Vai uses different guitars for different songs. Flo for WAP and FTLOG because he needs the sustainer; BH for Bad Horsie, because its tuned to drop C; the double neck mirror Jem for Glorious because he needs the fretless neck; and of course Evo for his normal songs. Evo, however, has that tragic crac...
