seems like i did have it backwards. those terms confuse me to no end, and musicians seem to use them interchangeably. i know i've heard it both ways from people who know what they're talking about. gaah.

it's not cutting the BPM in half, it's cutting the time in half. say you were playing along in 4/4 and you get to a half time section, it's going to feel like 2/2. the deal there is that where as one quarter note is played on every beat in 4/4, two will be played for every beat in 2/2. i think half ...

you'll play it exactly as written, but due to the note values, it will feel twice as fast. conversely, double time will feel twice as long.

good advice. try singing your lines. something string players do is play and play and play, it's like, "haha, i don't have to breathe motherfuckers"

the thing is that takes away from phrasing, so when you sing your lines, your solo breathes naturally.

work on your ear like a madman. do like you would if you were jamming, just sing solos instead of playing them. when you get to where you can play again, sing a melody, then play it. it should really make cooler ideas come out.

Jazz can really easy turn into a circle jerk for musicians. It ends up being a bunch of musicians sitting around watching each other get off with how complicated their lines are and how fast and cool they are. That being said, I'm a jazz performance major at college, and that's not what jazz is abou...

yea dude, my bass teacher gave me this whole page of excersises that build speed and dexterity, and i'm supposed to do each for 3 minutes a piece straight into the next one.

i've spent an hour and a half just doing those before. it's good stuff, but you've gotta be careful to relax and to breathe.

I'm going to have to go with the Bassman. My bands demo was cut using primarily an old bassman combo, and i doubt it's the tone you'd expect from one. The're gorgeous amps, and at this point, all three guitar players in my band own vintage bassmans. Thos amps are pure sex dude. Go listen to what a b...

I like many genres of music. Rock, rap, jazz, classical, avant-garde, etc. The music in rap songs is good, but the shit they sing about is pure nonsense. They all rap about the same things. I like pop. Justin Timberlakes music is good. And judging by what I saw on the Grammys, at least Timberlake c...

But it is scarce for musicians to be like that cause usually we are a bunch of lazy bums who can't even play our instrument for more than a couple hours a day. When in reality if that is what we do we should treat it like a real job and be doing something at least a little involved with guitar for ...

Supply and demand dude. the reason tapes are cheap is becaus no one buys them. They can either sell them for cheap or discontinue them altogether. The record industry definately doesn't make enough money off of tapes to stay alive, but selling tapes does help to add some on top of what they make on ...
