I still have doubts about the pedal - maybe it's me just having too much stuff I don't really use around; but the video is a treat.

I cheated on my brand new Jem 77 VBK with my battered Fender Lead II. It just happened, you know, we had such good memories together, we were hanging out and things sort of happened by themselves.

Should I tell my Jem?

I've tried Dunlop Jazz III 17 years ago, and never looked back.

Occasionaly, I'll try something different, and see no gain in adapting to another pick.

That, and my fingers.

To go in the absolute opposite direction of the previous post, emulating Vai is a great way to try different phrasings. And if you really want a ride, just check out almost every single song Jeff Beck played, and weep. I'll agree imitation's not a goal in itself, but it's a fun exercise and a necess...

As far as the vocal songs go, I'd really love Under It All and Alive in an Ultra World (one of the best guitar tones Steve has had, period). Same here. Oh. And Voodoo Acid of course. What were you people thinking, leaving it out, hey? Look at the needy little bugger, never satisfied and proud of it.

Yay, most naked tracks on iTunes outside the US! (and Firewall's in there. Wasn't that somewhat vocal, hmm?) I had clearly more pleasure than I expected jamming over Ooo. I played mostly crap, mind you, as I haven't ever worked the piece before, but surfing over those changes is most excellent - eve...

Just reading the linear notes for RI:R, and this bit made me gawp a little Steve writes in relation to FSE: As difficult as this song was to perform and record, after it was done I thought… “Hmmm, I can get even freakier than that.” So wait till next time. !! That's Steve for you. I remember an int...

That's funny, a few days ago I was going through the Guitar Extravaganza songbook and wondering why Steve had stopped giving us this wealth of trivia about each song.

Vocal? Well, Under It All is no Little Alligator... And I'd love that track to get naked.

It would have to be Rescue Me or Bury Me, if only because of it being Steve's first serious attempt at singing, and juste before a great and long instrumental section. From another vocalist, Still my Bleeding Heart & Just Cartilage just show what kind of a beast is Devin Townsend. He was 20ish at th...

I own a Jem as well as another 24 fret guitar, and frankly, it doesn't make that much of a difference. Having high-output pickups and a well set axe will IMO make more of a difference.

I am suprised that no one mentioned Mattias Eklundh. This guy reminds me alot of Vai in the way his playing is quirky and interesting, but he realy doesn't sound like Vai. +1 Mattias Eklundh shares the quirky side and a great sense of humour with our beloved guitar slinger. Still, less lyrical, les...

It seems the Naked Tracks will be the Naked Vamps tracks re-packaged. Here is the track listing for two of these : "Steve Vai Guitar Styles & Techniques by Jeff Perin, Hal Leonard", P&W + S&R: - The Animal - The Riddle - Answers - FTLOG - Still my Bleeding Heart - Touching Tongues - S&R - Rescue me ...

Re: Modes and Modal Chords!!!

Hi, I am Ashu, a 15 year old from India. I'm self thought as none of the teachers here have any real knowledge of techniques and western theory. Now, constantly seeing the topic of modes being discussed in every guitarists' forums, i grew curious and really wanted to learn those.but the trouble is ...
