Re: Whats going on with Vai Tunes ?

I have the same problem, but am from the same region (Belgium). Having the pdf booklet as a free download on vai.com seems fair. iTunes are selling it for 0,50€ on Without Me, which is already too much considering they're more expensive than amazon on the track itself... And, if I'm correct, are ove...

Re: THE BEST ROCK GUITAR PLAYERS!!!

Another endless thread comin' up? I'll quote just a few I fear wouldn't be mentioned here, according to overall musicality rather than pure chops : Dean De Leo (Stone Temple Pilots) Alain Johannes (Eleven, QotSA & Them Crooked Vultures on tour) Randy California (Spirit) Ty Tabor (King's X, Platypus,...

Re: Where did Steve get the melody For the Love of God??

Not the band Chess, but the musical Chess. It's the intro part to 'One night in Bankok', sung by Murray Head (though the radio version often lacks this intro part). It was written by the guys from ABBA and the lyrics were by Tim Rice. Somewhere along the way of making Fire Garden an actual album, s...

Re: New Steve interview

You gather a group, have them in a room, make music, record that music, and subsequently release that music. There isn't much overdubs, and not a lot of big production. My records have a lot of production, so I'd like to tone that down a bit. That is something I like to read. I loved the ALS approa...

Re: Vai and the illuminati, im confused

Steve's not out to rule the world.

On the other hand, his evil twin, Jack "Butler" Vai, is. Remember the Jemini video? You thought it was post-prod? That's what they want you to believe.

Re: Where did Steve get the melody For the Love of God??

I missed that topic on its first run, obviously. Well, whatever the similarities we can all hear (which are, IMO far less obvious than Spirit's Taurus Vs Stairway, for example), musically, the movement from E to F (and C Major to G Major) is central to the theme of FTLOG and I can't hear it in Kung-...

Mattias Eklundh.

Jeff Beck can pretty much play on a plastic cup, sound like a bastard and blow everyone away.

Vernon Reid (just kidding)

It's funny how I pictured Satan's spawn to be a little more charismatic than that.

Hmm, that cover... The guy hasn't changed. I mean, he's, well, changed, but not in a changing way. Or in a good way, according to a blind-test in french http://www.metalorgie.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8140 . Honestly, I still cannot be sure it's not a fake, but it's funny as hell, provided you ...

Just a thought : the Guitar Atlas series is nice. It gives you an insight about the context and some specifics of each style. It's a good first step IMHO.

And then you realize you need one or two more lifetimes :)

Re: Tone

Ok, so I was on the bus with someone I know who plays guitar anyway, we got arguing about tone. How do you convince someone that tone comes from the fingers? because he isn't convinced ~_~ Just invite a lot of incredibly famous guitar players to play on his shitty setup. Or : have him play an incre...

Re: stuck in a big rut

Just know that your rut is just natures way of telling you to take a day off. It is nothing serious. Just go hang with friends, and see what happens. It is far from the end of your tenure as a guitarist/musician. You'll come out of it just fine with fresh ears. I agree heartily. That probably is on...
