Re: AN OPEN LETTER TO STEVE VAI

The whole 'Sound Theories concept' makes a lot more sense to me now I've seen the DVD, which is excellent. I feel that it should've been released before the CD. Listening to the CD is like watching 'Lord of the Rings' with a blindfold on-you miss a great deal of the spectacle! I agree with you. Sou...

Re: AN OPEN LETTER TO STEVE VAI

Although the Sound Theories releases were a monumental task in terms of devising, performing, recording, releasing etc, they weren't, for me at any rate, particularly satisfying musically. It was almost like a covers CD/DVD in that respect so I really feel the four years since any new material was ...

Re: Slip of the Tongue 20th Anniversary Edition

Greatly look forward to this release! :) I remember Steve mentioning(in an interview) where he had 'doubled' the guitar parts for kitten has claws...as much as 30 times! I could have been wrong. I'm not sure which song he 'doubled' to make it more thick. Just looking forward to the 20th Anni...

Re: Exclusive Vai Concert Photographs For Sale

WOW, sadly, this is a bit strange considering time passed, etc. BUT, I Must thank you for your Photo's Mikey!!! First of all, THE pic of Anne Marie, Steve, Alex, and the rest of the band you took at Lupo's at Providence, RI! I look at it everyday with a huge smile on my face. It captures such a wond...

Re: Rush

OMFG, RUSH rules. Cutting my teeth as a bass player in the 70's...I had no cool older relatives/people to direct me: alas, did my best chugging away with the 16th notes of other popular bands of the time. Then, I heard 2112! 'Light years' beyond other bands of the 70's!!:) Over the Decades, they hav...

Re: What amps does everyone have?

I've downsized over the years. I just bought a 68 Fender Priceton from ebay to complement my JEM. :D Wow, more touch sensative than I imagined. Plus, the Jemini pedal drives it nicely! My biggest surprise was how loud a 12 Watt amp can be by itself! Had started to buy a new Legacy II combo, but coul...

Re: Renowned guitarist who don't use effects

Ok, I'm lost. What was the aim of this discussion again? Outing liars? Exactly, see original post about fictional interviews(yes, plural) that simply don't exist and never will exist: you called it from the start. It takes some stones to lie on an internet forum like this one!

Re: Renowned guitarist who don't use effects

Can you mention any of the above interviews were(sp?) the guitarits says "I'm not really into effects"? Some genres of music have guitarists that are always saying this usually after saying that they don't know any scales and that music theory stifles creativity! I'll keep an eye out for it ...

Re: Renowned guitarist who don't use effects

[ Please break the news to boswell gently: he will adjust! I don't give a shit where/how someone gets their sound just don't like being fed BS. Just think about this: Does it really matter that they derive their tones from more than just guitar and amps? Isn't it all about the sound and the music i...

Re: Renowned guitarist who don't use effects

I'm happy you can recall history, yet you can't remember your sources on this thread you started, no big deal in your mind. Thanks for Finally telling the truth and providing ONE artist/ (article: SURE it says I really dont use effects but....), considering you stated you were tired of reading arti...

Re: Renowned guitarist who don't use effects

Time after time in magazines, or the internet I read interviews were the "renowned" guitarist claims he's not into effects yet goes on to describe his rig which includes a pedal board and rack full of effects! In addition to which a causal listen to the guys latest album shows it to be awash with f...
