Cool tattoo, and how cool you got to show it to Steve in person!

Re: Legacy 100 has low volume, shuts off

If it's a power tube (EL34) replace them both (or all 4, not sure how many the Legacy has). If it's a preamp tube, you can replace just the one that's bad.. but from your description, I'd bet it's a power tube. If it were me, I would replace all the power tubes, and see if the problem remains. If it...

Re: Legacy 100 has low volume, shuts off

The first stop is always the tubes. I suggest replacing the EL34 power tubes with new ones (or at least known good ones). IDK if the Legacy require them to be re-biased or not, usually the answer is yes. After that, if it has a tube rectifier, replace that. It could be a tube going bad, but not comp...

If you aren't already listening to Andy Timmons, do yourself a favor and DO SO!

I recommend his "newer" albums, "Theme From A Perfect World" and "Resolution".

Re: Ibanez Jem woody

I don't own one, but tried a Woody in my local shop. The action was VERY low, too low for me (this of course can be changed). And yes on the bar- I immediately noticed the volume knob was in my way when trying to use the bar. Had I decided to buy the guitar, it would have been a big problem for me. ...

Re: Tube amp under $1000

Hey, if you're looking for a GREAT, ONBOARD, dirty channel, the Supersonic 22 is fantastic. You don't even need a drive pedal with that amp. I own it and also a Supersonic 60 because it's louder and has more headroom, for gigging with my band. Should be able to find a used '22 around $600? It's real...

Re: Pre-amps? Power-amps? Integrated amps???

IMO, it's not a step "up", just a step "sideways". It allows you to get, say, the preamp of a Vox AC30 and the power amp section of a Marshall. Or vice-versa. It's just a different way to achieve the tones you are after. When I saw that NAMM video of Steve demo-ing those preamp modules, I thought "e...

Re: NEW STUDIO ALBUM FOR 2018?

I'm probably the only one thinking this, LOL, but as much as I have seen Vai lately giving lectures on things OTHER than playing... life, energy, intent, etc.... I think it would interesting for him to merge his love for music/guitar and his mental/spiritual disciplines, into a sort of, for lack of ...

Re: Your connection with your favorite Guitarist

I'd have to say... Richie sambora. I was 8 years old when I first heard the songs an saw the videos from Slippery When Wet. Totally blew me away. I still love him!!! Going to see him in concert on October!!! Good to see the Richie love on a Vai forum!!! LOL He's my #1 as well. I was probably 16 whe...

Re: A thank you letter to Steve

She "beat it"... for now.... I guess 5 years is what everyone is waiting for... hers had metastasized, which in the case of ovarian cancer, is a 30% survival rate. But that's THREE in ten! Praying she's one of the 3.

You hang in there.

Re: A thank you letter to Steve

I wish this forum had a "like" button. Good luck, Jenn. Prayers said for you. One of my best friends just went through ovarian cancer, and my mom just had a cancer scare (3 months later we found out it wasn't cancer).... another friend the same: a 3-month journey to finally discover it wasn't cancer...

Best Vai DVD?

I just watched "Stillness in Motion", and the "front & Center" show... both were great. But I know Vai has several live DVDs.... just wondering what the Vai fans think is his best one? For example, the Astoria one looks cool, probably has alot of the older stuff on it, and Billy Sheehan on bass? But...
