Re: fractal fx8
Yeah, I am a little worried about 4 cable method with it. But fractal is great. I used the Ultra live for a long time before stupidly selling it and going back to Vox. I used the extra $$$ for some medical bills but regret selling the Ultra. The FX8 will have a small run in October and full producti...

Re: fractal fx8
I'm still torn, jackson ampworks Britain 30 with the fx8 or an axe 2 xl?! Once I've decided I will pick it up for my current rig if I go jackson route.

Re: Who's your favourite Vai bass player
I have to go Sheehan! Not to downplay the talents of any others, but his playing on the live in Astoria is phenomenal! And I kinda like his tone and style more than others.

Re: Anyone know what gauge strings Steve uses for "Bad Horsi
I didn't realize he used a seven string on bad horsie, it's just a regular Jem strung 10-52 He says. This from "Vai Himself" 'Bad Horsie' was inspired by the riff from the guitar dual section in 'Crossroads' when I'm imitating the train. In the 'Crossroads' film I had my sixth string tuned to 'D' bu...

Re: Anyone know what gauge strings Steve uses for "Bad Horsi
He's quoted as using 10s sizes 10-52 strings on this forum somewhere. A lot of people prefer 11s for dropped C but do what feels best to you!

He skipped the arpeggios in that video.
I seem to recall hearing the same thing on playing it live, but couldn't confirm where.

Re: Found a Jem 7v-wh from 2000
I'd say jump on it! Unless you need rosewood to feel right! IMO the older ebony necks were made better and had higher quality craftsmanship. Plus that price is amazing. I would check to make sure it's original parts and bridge can be setup properly, knife edges are good, intonates well. But if it ca...

Re: Cost of JEM7V up 50% - what are the factors do you think
Obamacare.. Duh! Thats the main reason!!! But on a serious note, inflation, employees, taxes, marketing, Vai's share, I'm sure they have a profit margin they want and if it drops below they will raise it to get that profit margin. It all adds up. I think as long as people continue to pay the price, ...

Re: What are you working on?
That's great! I took a long time off guitar due to a wrist injury, it's amazing how fast I bounced back on some things and others seems like I never even learned. The music and theory side has been a little easier to keep up with. I never considered how other cultures and places may learn, speak, an...

Re: I built a kit jem-ish guitar...
Pictures or it didn't happen!
I've thought of doing the same thing. I was going to get an "out of the swirled body" and try my shot at makng everything else. The neck seemed much to complicated so I never tried, but building a kit might be fun!

Just what the title says folks! I'm currently running through fretboard logic....again. Working on theory and chord formation in multiple locations, as well as notes of scales and circle of fifths stuff. Technique wise I'm working on inside alternate picking (an exercise from John Petrucci's Rock Di...

Indonesia cost a lot less than Japan. Kinda how we outsource our call centers in America to India. Saves the company money, saves the customer money. I like the premium guitars, they do great work for their price!

Secret Jewel Box Prices
Hey everyone, I was wondering how much the original Secret Jewel Box cost and what your opinion on the price should be now for a collector of Vai memorabillia. I know it was limited to 10,000... I think. But I was trying to find one, ebay seems to think they are worth hundreds of dollars with none o...
