Re: Who Uses Line 6 Spider Amps?

I used a Line 6 Spider II both times my band deployed to Iraq. My main gripe is all the tweaking necessary to get the volumes on various presets to match. It got the job done, and held up to a lot of abuse, and a total of two years of extreme temperatures (130 degrees in the summer.) On a short tour...

Re: A Thread About Delay Pedals

Also, I've found that the volume of the delay is much louder if it's in front of the amp, rather than in the loop. I've used the VOX Time Machine, and am currently using the MXR Carbon Copy and TC Electronic Flashback, with the same result. Basically, it's much easier for me to get the sound I'm loo...

Re: The gear YOU can swear by

I was very happy with the Boss Mega Distortion. Definitely got close to the Mesa sound. But then I got a Mesa, so I sold it to a coworker.

Re: Carvin Finally Did It

It's pretty common. I'm surprised that they ever kept the I in production. The point is to make the amp Vai uses. If he used the II, there was no reason to keep making the original. Now there's no reason to keep the II.

Re: New Gear Update plus tube and pedal questions.

I was never able to get decent sounds out of the Jemini pedal. It's entire purpose was to replicate Steve's Tube Screamer and DS-1 pedals in one package. The main problem is you can't cascade them. Playing the TS into the DS-1 is the only way I could get them to sound good to my ears. I have been ve...

Mesa Boogie Mark V

EH MicroPOG

If I'm playing through a different amp:
MXR Classic Overdrive
MXR Distortion+
EH LPB-1 boost pedal

Jazz III style picks. Can't use regular sized ones anymore.
Planet Waves circuit breaker cables.

Re: New amp and OD question

I've never been happy with the Tube Screamer sound. I've had great success with the MXR Classic Overdrive. (I think it was a Guitar Center exclusive.)

Re: Boosting for Solos Question

I've found that running a boost pedal in front of my gain doesn't result in added volume, just more gain. When I'm using pedals for distortion, putting the boost after the distortion gives the desired volume boost. I've seen the suggestion of putting a clean boost in the effects loop. When I had the...

Re: United States Army Medical Command Band to perform "Libe

Played "liberty" last night. Went pretty well. Had a moment of horrible noise from sound reinforcement, but other than that, it went well. I am still trying to track down video from May's performance in VA. Will keep y'all posted.

Re: STEVE TURNS 50! HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVE

Mr. Vai,
Happy Birthday. And may you have many more.

I really wanted to thank you for the opportunity to perform your song "Liberty" with the U. S. Army Medical Command Band. It was truly an honor to be able to do so with your permission and blessing.

Sincerely,
Brad Bailey

Re: United States Army Medical Command Band to perform "Libe

So a funny thing happened. At the end of our performances, my commander will often take a minute to thank the audience and anybody who helped out with the show, then play the final song, which would have been "Liberty." Well, last night as he's speaking, the Army Surgeon General, LTG Eric Schoomaker...

Re: United States Army Medical Command Band to perform "Libe

I got the time wrong on the San Antonio area performance. It will be at 1900 (7PM). In case of inclement weather, the performance will be at the Sam Houston Club, on Fort Sam Houston.
