Anyone driving from or through Nashville? My finger is twitching nervously over the mouse... about to pay too much for airfare with lousy departure and arrival times. Considering driving. It would be nice to be able to bring a couple guitars and not be constrained to the airline schedule. On a side-...

Just as with every Vai show I have attended, I came into it having forgotten what an incredible live show the man works up. Each time I am floored by the talent and spectacle. This time was no different. This was only my second time to see Eric. Very impressive! There are always a few bumpy moments ...

That was my finger. It was smashed into so many pieces that I went through 5 hand specialists before I found one with the confidence to try and repair it. The things sticking out are pins to hold the many fragments of bone into place and one to hold the knuckle, which was broke in half. I was so sca...

Studio #2 Under Construction

I posted this on jemsite too. Figured I'd share on the forum of my favorite guitarist in the world. Now that my web site is up, I figured I could talk about my little studio project with the Vai forum. I play the guitar for fun (Vai big influence) and make music for fun (really crappy music). I do s...

I own an Ibanez 2027 Prestige, the one that was on display at NAMM the year they came out. I also own 2 UVs and an AX series. The 2027 has better tone to my ears. A couple friends have neck-through Prestiges. They are awesome sounding.

I would like to see less Behringer too... if it meant that I had Manley or Avilon or something in it's place. Right now my mic chain consists of a Behringer tube pre-amp and comp/limiter. It gives me the best sound for the price. And that's nothin'. I have an Alesis MIDIVerb hidden in there too. :)

Damn! I guess folks around here dig Steve Vai. :) Since Steve and his association with Ibanez was the inspiration for Jemfest, it is so appropriate that his interview gets the most downloads. If it wasn't for Steve's inspiring ability and musicianship, I wouldn't even be playing the guitar. Thanks R...

Dennis, At least you HAVE a decorating scheme. Mine is just a bunch of gear tossed into a room. That will hopefully change in the hear future. The machine looked kinda' like an MX-70 to me in the photo. I always did like the warmth of tape, but have been on Pro Tools for so many years that I manage ...

http://www.atomictoyboxstudios.com/ Peace, Dennis It is nice to see the 2" Otari, 16 track pictured in your studio. I had one just like it, but it sat for so long that the rubber parts turned into mush. I kept recycling tape for a long time. It's so expensive. Finally I just migrated to Pro Tools. ...

Atomic, I had my studio in a garage for a while too. I liked it seperate from the house. The garage had it's own heat and electric... and a fridg for the beer. :) I had to move my studio from Houston to Minnesota and then to Nashville. Now maybe I can finally think about building custom furnature th...

Good question... I have used cheap Pro Tools plugins that do pitch correction and transposing better than my rack mounted Eventide Eclipse. I love my Eclipse, but if the Eventide plugins work as well as the real deal, it's still nothing to flip cartwheels about. IMO, there are better plug-in gadgets...

Please don't take this wrong... It's a new millinium. Learn the computer. Get decent multi-track recording software. Pay the price to learn it. There is nothing in a 4-track tape that will come close to the ease of editing and the sound quality. It is really worth the effort and when you look back y...

Ahh, bob, you are bob oakman on jemsite yea? Your song Save My Soul kicks so much ass! One of the coolest songs ive ever heard :D Anyway, I like your studio, its good to see a POD and Digi 001. Yup. I'm boB. Thanks for liking the tune. The POD is just used for bass in the absense of a real bass amp...

Studios R Us - Show and Tell

I keep seeing "My Studio" threads. I like learning about and seeing everyones studios, but the different threads are scattered all over the place. How 'bout we do it in one thread? Photos of mine can be found here. http://homepage.mac.com/defiantbob/BobsBus/PhotoAlbum3.html It's based around Pro Too...
