Re: Too scared to play slow ??
Just seems like ZW doing his thing. He's into chicken picken, wah, pinch harmonics and shredding the poop out of the pentatonic scale. Seems to be intent on burning it into his soul. Ready to rock. Some people have more of a boner for the lydian mode. Whatever floats your boat man.

Re: Modes
The problem is that learning is a continuous process that requires constant pursuit, and some people don't like that fact and want to give in rather than persist in their learning. Pronouncing things as useless is one of the biggest and most common cop outs out there. It's almost just another way fo...

Re: Tips for cross-string tapping
I'm a believer in trying/playing/practicing all sorts of everything, and I believe that eventually you will be able to utilize it in some way, whether it's tomarrow, or at some later time down the road into the future. You might revisit a concept or technique down the road a year or ten later and t...

Re: Tips for cross-string tapping
Multi tapping all over the neck wasn't around in Buddy Holly's day. And that's a good thing I think. It gives us something else to listen to and be inspired by, so that we don't all end up doing all of the same things and approaching music the same exact way all the time. And there's alot of stuff ...

Re: Improvising over chord changes
Chord tones in general can't hurt either. Also the highest voice in the chord voicing is usually heard as the melody note. Because when you strum a chord with a downstroke, the highest voice in the chord voicing is the last note heard by the ear, so it sticks in your craw. Another thing to consider ...

Re: To focus on a specific playing style or not?
You should do what you like. If you have broad tastes then explore a broad variety. If you have very specific tastes then you should go for that if that's what you really like. I have some casually specific tastes and techniques that fall into alot of different genres. Some people might have some ve...

Re: modes..
It's all about the chords.... Yes. If I play C Ioanian or A Aeolian without a chord behind it, they sound exactly the same. They have the same notes, CDEFGAB. Without a chord behind it, they may or may not sound different depending on how it's done. However, if I play a Cmajor under it it will soun...

Re: modes..
ahh i get it now, thanks :D Famous last words. 8) The Natural minor scale or Aeolian mode is found by starting any Major scale starting from it's sixth degree to arrive at it's own unique pattern of whole steps and half steps, or whole-TONES and semi-tones. If you begin the C Major Scale C D EF G A...

Am7 barre chord -5---------- A (Root) -5---------- E (fifth) * -5---------- C (m3rd) -5---------- G (m7th) -7---------- E (fifth) -5---------- A (Root) The one shown in your post just uses the pinky on the 2nd string(the B string) to play the m7th * instead of the 5th * on that string like so: -5---...
