I've seen Real Illusions get the same amount of promotion as any of the last few Vai albums. That would be, small mentions in the different guitar magazines, a nice in depth article, and a possible cover (probably coming soon). The mini-website idea is excellent, but that's only for the people that ...

I got the clips off of this website, man. You may need to download a CODEC for your player to be able to play the clips.

If I remember correctly, it's a Boss DS-3. I haven't seen the clip in months, though.

Al Di Meola & Steve Vai. I don't know if it would work... They may be a little bit too different but they're still my two masters! :) Vai played on an Al DiMeola song called Race With the Devil on Turkish Highway off of the record The Infinite Desire. The tune was written by DiMeola, and Steve and ...

My least fav is Engines of Creation. I was surprised to see Joe Satriani as people's least favorite album. I personally feel that Joe Satriani and The Crystal Planet are his best because they are his most original work.

For a bigger, more experimental band I would choose:

Steve Vai - guitars, vocals
Jordan Rudess - keys
Mike Keneally - guitars, keys, vocals, etc.
Jonas Hellborg - bass
Jeff Sipe - drums

I always wanted Steve to do a tour as a power trio. The line up would be:

Steve Vai - guitars
Billy Sheehan - bass
Deen Castronovo - drums

Jeremy is phenomenal, and to hear him play with Sheehan blows my mind. However, my favorite drummer that has played with Mr. Vai is Deen Castronovo, closely followed by Mike Mangini.

The short answer is A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING! He likes pop and appreciates good vocal harmonies a la En Vogue or N'Sync. He loves modern classical music, in the vein (sorry for the misspellings of the following names) Varese, Shostackovic, Boulez, Stravinsky, etc. He grew up on prog/art rock. i.e....

The Vai CD that I'm dying to hear is the musical that he wrote, which he postponed to record Real Illusions. No hurries though, the fact that he held it off is just reaffirmation that he won't compromise when it comes to his art.
