Re: Steve Vai on Michael Jackson...

I'm stunned .

Like so many other pop acts , I've never understood the popularity of Michael Jackson .
Okay EVH did a pretty cool solo on one of his singles , and Stevie Stevens did some good work on "Bad" , but the rest is naff pop .

Re: Are the Beatles overrated ?

Thanks BigBadBill ..... that youtube clip was superb , although I couldn't find Part 4  . Goodall is far more knowledgable than me about the origins of music , and the use of chords , cadence , etc etc . I still don't care for the Beatles' songs , on the whole I wish they would add some kick a...

Are the Beatles overrated ?

I've never understood why the Beatles are so revered . To me they are the musical equivalent of the Emperor's New Clothes . Their tunes are generally very simple and basic , and for the most part rather bland . Although in their later years , they did explore a couple of social issues e.g. Blackbird...

Don't wish to sound a smart a**e but I think that solo was played by Brian Robertson .

I was working night shifts in a supermarket back in the 80's , and we used to bring in cassette tapes to play over the tannoy whilst the shop was shut .

One day , a colleague brought in "Eat 'Em And Smile" . I was instantly hooked .

Indeed, one would think so. But I get to do whatever i like... maybe there is a catch somewhere, that I haven't seen, or won't see for years to come, but believe it or not, it is rather fun. Oh no, sonny sixshooter-she's voodooed you! Your soul is damned to everlasting domesticity, ironing, coming ...

If they come to the UK , I'd pay just to look at them on stage ....even if they didn't play a note .
EVH is a legend , and my jaw is still sore from when it hit the ground , the first time I heard Eruption .

All valid ideas Bill ......... I need to do something to avoid having to listen to him . When we went to see X - Factor at the M.E.N. Arena , I just kept nipping out to the refreshment stalls , but this is at the Apollo , and the bar is inside the auditorium . Funny how I have to accompany h...

The answer to this question will change depending on mood , but at the moment ........ 1)Chris Cornell - for his solo , Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog work . Wasn't keen on Audioslave . 2)Kenny Wayne Shepherd - I love the Blues , I love great guitar playing ; the man combines the two . 3)Led Zepp...

Paul is a great guitarist and a really nice , friendly guy .

One of my friends and I , regularly e-mail him , asking advice on playing techniques etc . , and he always replies promptly and courteously .

He just seems to be a top bloke .

I though it was quite a good article - its unlike Steve to ever get mentioned in Classic Rock so to devote 2 pages to him was quite amazing IMHO. From reading the magazine for years - they'd be more orientated towards Zappa so to not reflect on too much of his solo albums is no big surprise. Yes, b...

It is a great album .......... probably in my Top 10 favourites . Great songs , DLR at his smoozing best , Bissonette shows why he's the "Prince of Pound " , and of course Sheehan and Vai just tear it up on every tune . This album is probably Vai in his most " showing off my shredding ability " mode...
