age limits

Looking over the USA venues, I found it surprising that some cities, like Portland OR, are classifying the upcoming Vai Sound Theories tour date as for ages 21+. How odd. Gen Y and Gen Z should get to hear this kind of music live (there is life beyond Gangsta!). Boo to the Portland venue operators f...

alive and kicking

I remember the phrase Frank Zappa used: "The Present Day Composer refuses to Die!" With respect to Steve Vai, it's absolutely true. Sound Theories, like Real Illusions, is one of the few contemporary albums that bring tears to these boomers' eyes. A very pleasing mix of contemplative playing and ver...

Guess there ain't no answer for this one. So USAers, let's hope the euro-only tour goes really well and that a killer DVD of it gets made so us USA folks can see what went on there!

Well given that Steve seems to play only in Europe as of late, I've had no opportunity to see the fabled EVO (I hope that Zappa/Vai tour does some gigs in the USA!!). But assuming EVO'S glue/filler is clear, people could possibly see a huge crack without realizing its being filled and making EVO as ...

Wasn't EVOs' crack glued up tight? I remember reading that on another thread here. Or when Tony B played it, was it separating again? Was the filling itself cracking or had it separated from the guitar body? And might it be that very crack that gives EVO its unique tone?? I believe Steve has played ...

Yes, it's possible the tuner could change a Guitar's sound. It seems fairly bulky and involves drilling a cavity in the guitar for the LCD "tuneout" display.

I certainly wouldn't expect Steve to jeprodize Evo or Flo, but perhaps he has another experimental Ax that Thomas could try Performer on.

self tuning guitars for steve?

Just wondering if Steve, Thomas or any of the Breed have played with the TransPerformance "The Performer" bridge which apparently can self tune guitar strings? Are auto-tuner solutions a help or a hinderance for performance (would be a bummer if "The Performer" decided to peform something different ...

If I missed something here, Mikey et all, I apologise.

But why is the tour only scheduled for Europe?

Might there be a few "warm up" sessions in the USA that local fans might be able to attend?

I discovered Steve via his performances with Frank Zappa, and then discovering a tiny little bin of his albums at BEST BUY. Picked up the Ultra Zone, really enjoyed it, and acquire more albums and DVDS when the budget allows. Good stuff!

It also would be good to work a deal with Apple so some of Steve's special goodies show up on the I-Tunes store.

As I was just given a video I-pod, finding some unique Vai stuff to put on it would be el-coolo!

I've no problem with downloading various Vai goodies for a reasonable fee. What I know about Steve is he works __very__ hard to create his music and puts a lot of passion into it. I'd love to contribute in other ways (fx, art, etc...) but perhaps the most practical is the $ route. So bring on the Va...

Yes it would be nice if the Zappas, Vai and others can treat us USA folks to some performances before they head off to Europe.

Is there some reason why Europe is now the center for these sorts of things?

Very interesting that recent emphasis of Steve and the Zappa tours are on Europe. I would have enjoyed seeing Steve's recent tour but it was in the states for such a __very__ short time! Is there a reason why classic Rock musicians like Steve and others are finding their most receptive audiences are...
