West Coast Update
Hi Folks,
It's been an amazing and busy week. We're been travelling up the West Coast, and these shows are always special ones, brimming with family and very special guests and friends. As such, it's been hard updating the blog these past few days, but now that we're in Seattle and moving into the middle of our tour, we'll have more time for blogging again.
Right now we're relaxing on the bus, and as illustrated by Jeremy below we're up to our ears in Starbucks. Yay! Usually when we roll into town, it's the first thing we all look for here on the band bus. Steve is sitting here with me in the front lounge doing press interviews for South America. Those are bound to be fun shows too!
Let me tell you about some of the recent shows:
Los Angeles was a real high point in the tour so far. The show was spectacular, the audience loved it, and the band played their asses off. Steve was really on fire and the energy coming off stage was about as intense as it gets. I photographed the show with legendary photographer Neil Zlozower, and he and I kept exchanging wide-eyed looks at each other. Neil has seen and photographed more rock performances that anyone for some of the greatest bands in the world, and I could tell he was really blown away by the show.
Tony MacAlpine came and visited us and watched the show from the wings. It was fun to see him enjoying the show so much, and for him to meet the new members of the band. Much of the Zappa Plays Zappa band were in attendance too! It was great to see them all after the show.
San Francisco was also a realy incredible show. The Fillmore is a legendary venue and the show was sold out. There is a different energy in standing venues and the crowd was ready to rock. Again, everyone's playing was really inspired. Some of the high-points were the violin solos, and "Whispering a Prayer". "Freak Show Excess" was also one of the most intense and aggressive performances of the song I've seen recently. Totally spectacular.
As some of you may have read on the Vai.com News page, we will be filming a DVD in Minneapolis. If you're in the Twin Cities, don't miss that show!
Also - don't forget to check out Front Row Center - where you can purchase photographic prints from shows you attended on the tour. We're adding to this all the time (though after California I'm behind a few shows... sorry!) New photos are beeing added frequently, so check that out!

I can only imagine the amazing shots you and Neil captured that night. I was dead center front row, and could see you guys snapping away.
I couldn't agree with you more, Mikey. I have seen Steve somewhere around 40 times now, and that LA show stunned me. The performance was stellar.
Good stuff! See you all soon
