Sorry folks but I'm looking for another amp recommendation.

I have a solid state amp right now but I would love to get a good tube amp. Here's what I want....

1) Small amp but loud enough for a small bar.
2) Has a great overdrive sound but it doesn't need a lot of bells and whistles.
3) Reasonable price say under $600...

Hopefully, I'll find something I like.
I had a Peavey VK once but I sold it once I moved out of my parents place and needed something quiet but now I'm missing the tube tone.

So, I appreciate everyone's help here.

Thank you!!

i think in the $600 range on a lucky day you can find a carvin legacy 2x12 combo

two guitar centers have a used 2x12 combo for sale at $699

i'm sure if you called them you could get them to do $600 with shipping taxes
it wont hurt to try- it would be worth it...

1. Eugene OR 2. Santa Clara CA

for 499 you could get a new vox night train head. 15 watts all tube class A and it is LOUD. Sounded beautiful through a vintage 30 equipped cab.

If you are looking for something a little more look at the mesa caliber, dual caliber, f series and maybe a beat up mark III. There are a couple of other reasonable mesa amps out there but it depends on what sound you are going for.

i have a mark III and it is basically a legacy only more versital.

Thanks, Jeries...

I've seen the adds and they do have some heads as well around $499... I dunno.. I might wait till I move out of this apartment first. I'm moving back home for a little bit next year so during that time maybe i can acquire one of these... I would love to demon one first though.

you could have easily gotten a good attenuator for less than $150 and keep your amp ;).

BTW, a Carvin Legacy combo (or head) will not solve your problem, but work the opposite way.

Edit: wah, the last post was the only one I didn´t read^^. But no we´re two :)

Also that is not true. Boogie Marks and Carvin Amps are absolutely diffrent. How comes you think they´re the same? I´ve played a Mark III and it is nothing like a Carvin Legacy...

well there are a couple of reasons.

i have two friends that have both owned legacys and they have also played through my mesa and both said the exact same thing. They said that it sounded like legacy only more versital... i am not sure why they would say that if they didn't think it was true because they both record and are exceptional players.

I wanted a legacy and listen to every clip i could get. Once i got my mark 3 i recored using some of my friends stuff, and tone wise some of the stuff i recored sounded like it could have been recored with a legacy.

The thing about mesa is they are a tweekers amp. You have to play with the settings for awhile.

well, even if this seems to be right in the face (again now...), I think there´s no way a Mark III sounds like a Legacy.

The Legacy has a lot less compression than a Mark III and is much more nasal as a Boogie could ever be. It has its own character which no amp can imitate. It is in fact Steve Vais amp and no matter how you tweak it, you can hear it is. Just think about it, if a Mark III sounded like a Legacy, there would be no need for the Legacy. The Mark III was way before the Legacy, and if you are Steve Vai you tried one for let´s say 90% sure (or at least a II C+).

I have a II C+ here and a Legacy and you won´t get close...even if the IIC+ is closer than a Mark III.

I´d really like to hear some samples that confirms your statement, otherwise the discussion could get long, because I´m completely not with you .

No offense though.

the person that post it said an amp under $600 so that's why i said the legacy combo--
you cant get a bumper sticker that says mesa boogie for under $500...

so since we were in the >600 i figured boogies were off limits...

if your budget is $2000 or so more get a Road King Combo

well i am not sure if i will be able to find those clips, here is other stuff i have done with the mark III.

those are just clips, so dont expect them to be musical and i would agree that the mark iii is probably a more nasal however, that can be pulled out of the amp. I dont have the mark III right now but i'll try to get a new clip for you.

well, to give you a quick feedback on the presented (even if it´s hard to hear with this nonsense shredding ), it sound similar to my Boogie, but not to a Legacy.

And I said the Legacy is nasal, not the Mark ;).

Well, let´s hear the new clip. Maybe you can convince me, but I really don´t think so. Like I said, I have them both here....:)

Actually, does the poor guy have an amp yet^^? Any update to that?
