What would happen if I cut the wires connected to the tone pot?

What would happen if I then took these wires and connected them together?

Would one of these configurations ground and completely mute the signal?

I was wondering, because I never use my tone pot and was wondering if I could use the spare pre-drilled hole for some other more useful component (say, a kill switch or coil tap, etc.)

You can remove the tone pot without it causing any issues with the electronics.
I always dich the tone controls from my guitars, never use them.

If you have access to a soldering iron, just unsolder the wire from the volume pot, that goes to the tone control and you're done.
Otherwise you can just cut the wire, but put some tape on the cut end, so the exposed wire inside doesn't come into contact with any other parts inside and cause it to short to ground.

Thanks! That was really helpful. Another question along the same lines: if I wanted to ground the guitar's signal, which wires (or wire) from the tone pot would I have to connect to the ground circuit (which I'm assuming is the sleeve from the output jack)? Thanks guys! I really appreciate your answer.

Is this for making a killswitch?

Yeah, that was one of the ideas I had in mind.

I did a little experimenting and found the solution myself. Connecting the wires grounds the signal, leaving them open preserves the signal.
