mine:

1.One piece, as said above could be anything, from piano to abstract noise.

2. I would say 5 minutes absolute maximum, for many reasons.

3. Poll it.

Also, you'd have to consider how long you'll let it run for. Writing a piece from scratch in a short amount of time could be difficult. Especially if its dedicated to Steve, I'd wouldn't want to rush it.

Ok, we got a few ground rules now, but Vaiagra 10-12 mins in a fairly long time, especially if there are many entrys, so whats your take on lydians 5 mins max?

So one piece only. (bands or solo or both?)

Poll.

Now as Duggy rightly mentioned how long we should run it for? (I think 2 months to get all entries, then votes for another 2 months. or would this be too long?

The prize? (I just say winning it would be enough)

What sites to use, to host the music?
my faves are soundclick, and youtube, but soundclick, I think would be better for this?

I think these are all good starts, right you guys come up with the rest.
:)

I'm going to get to work on this right away, though I don't think I'll be able to do steve justice. But hey, myabe we'll have this exact same competition in 20 years time, then my entry will be half decent.

5 minutes max sounds great :D . More than enough time.

Run it for two weeks! (One week entries and critique, one week of polls)

I think the 'prize' should be winning too. Let's face it. Steve's a busy guy. If the thread stays open - who knows - maybe he'll get a chance to hear it someday. That's pretty cool isn't it?

And really, this isn't a brutal shredding contest. Obviously, members of Vai.com aren't all on the same musical level, and many here (myself included) have probably never composed a piece of music before. This should be for fun.

Ir at least in the beginning.. depends on the entries 8)

Duggy, don't worry about sh-t like that. If it comes from the right place and put enough elbow grease into it, it'll be awesome :peace !!

Thanks :) , but I'd need more than a week to come up with something. How does 2 weeks sound?

Duggy, how about one month to compose and get crits, followed by one week of voting?
