Did you attend this special show at the Roland Meinl Ibanez Guitar Festival?

Please post your reviews here!

I was there. Steve spontaneously decided to play his whole set, though only one and a half hours were planned. So it ended up being more than two and a half hours of one of the greatest shows I've ever been too. Since it was the Ibanez festival, there were performances of other Ibanez endorsers the whole day over. And some of them I found really fantastic. But Steve doesn't only play the guitar - he IS the guitar. I can't describe the power of his stage presence.
Btw I wouldn't have minded if the volume would have been a bit lower. It was extremely loud, even with earplugs. But I guess that's common at Vai concerts

Hello all, new member here.
Longtime big Steve Vai fan.
Disclaimer: I was not at this show.

However, I did notice the comment about the volume and loudness.
It seems that here and there on this site, other people have been commenting on it as well.
I posted a few days ago about my thoughts/opinions on one of the Generation Axe shows that I attended in April 2016.
For some reason, because of the way that the forum software handles posts, it doesn't show up here in the main body of Concert Reviews.
But if I click on "View Unanswered Posts" it's there.

This could be a touchy subject, and I mean no disrespect to any of the performers involved.
At the same time, I do feel that this volume issue may need to be addressed.
IMO it could lead to a much more enjoyable concert experience.

Who better than Steve to possibly give it some thought?
Someone who really seems to care about his music, as well as his fans.
And if anyone could make changes/corrections to the issue, he could.
And what better place to start the conversation than the place where he is most likely to see it?

Looking forward to the U.S. PAW tour later this year.

Can anybody here please tell me what the very first song was that he played. The one he came on stage to. I did not know it and I can't find it anywhere, help please, it's stuck in my head ever since that gig.

That being said, the sound was a bit of an issue, but great concert, still!

It's called 'Bad Horsie'.

I know Bad Horsie, but that wasn't it. He played Bad Horsie after the song I'm talking about. Maybe it was just some intro stuff? A cover maybe? I don't know I'm starting to think I'm crazy.

Ah, ok, he perhaps played a different set list then on the Ibanez Festival.
Let me see if I can find out.

That would be too kind, thank you very much!

Edit: If it helps the song I'm talking about had a simple but intriguing power chord progression as its main theme, and was in a moderately fast rock kind of style, normal length I'd say between 4 and 5 minutes. I understand that's not very much to work with but it's all I've got, unfortunately.

That was not at the Ibanez Festival. He started the show with Bad Horsie. He didn't play anything before that.

Guess I'm crazy then  the track started before he came onstage, are you sure that was Bad Horsie? The song after Bad Horsie was Crying Machine, right? I'm sure there was something before that, maybe it was just some track playing from the PA and he played along for the first minutes of the gig or something.

Now I know what you mean. He improvised along to some songs from the PA backstage a few minutes before the show started. One of the songs was Roundabout by Yes. Don't remember the others.

Ahh jeez that explains it. Thanks, I guess I won't find out until I accidentally hear the song again, but at least this settles my mind a bit.
