I wanted another guitar with a sustainer... got an identical guitar to my fav guitar- had a sustainer put in- loved it- then put a $300 floyd rose in it and hated it- sold it at a huge loss.
Trying for months to pickup a nice late 90s Ibanez Prestige (RG3120TW) - can't find anything...
Came across a JEM- guy was asking $2400+ for it... told them they're worth 1200-1400 all day not 2000+. I told him i'd do 900 cash- took it off craigslist never heard from him again- 3 weeks he calls me back- no luck selling and would take 900. Before I did the deal took him and the guitar to my guitar guy to verify it wasn't messed up and needed a re-fret like every other guitar I bought lately.
Hit up Fernandes while I was about to get a Prestige- Anddddddddddd a white driver was an option.
That got me thinking of the Jem again...
Got the Jem, Got the Sustainer...Perfect.
It was installed by Atomic Guitar Works in Peoria AZ and they did an insane job. The cavity plate is even recessed, holes for the light and trimpots.... I gave them pics of FLO to copy the way the dummy was installed and where the extra knob was put-- not only they did it perfectly- they even replaced the knob with a black knob because one of the photos I gave them had the tone knob black... without asking...perfect....
The guitar is playing great, sounds great - Had some trouble with harmonic mode- screwed with the trim pots (the trim pot diagram had different directions than the manual on what to set one of them to- HUGE difference). Harmonic mode was acting crappy- raised the bridge pickup=perfect.
I didn't want to be a Vai rip of, I didn't want to copy him
BUT i want another sustainer guitar and at $900 you can't get a better guitar... and some Prestiges that should be selling for 500 lately have been going for 900+ so might as well get a Jem.
