What the "For the love of god" actually means?

#1 Post by light_vai » Thu Sep 01, 2011 5:26 am

Dear all,
I know maybe it's a stupid question.
Hope you guys don't mind it.
Since English is not my mother tongue and recently my friend and I was talking about "For the love of god".
We argued about the meaning of it, that's why we decided to ask for help here.
Please kindly help us on it.

Thanks a lot~~

PS: By the way, I ever play this song about 8 years ago. Hope you guys like it.

'For the Love of God' can be an expression of exasperation over something eg "Why, for the love of God, did he do such a stupid thing?"

However I personally don't think this is the context of Steve's usage. I think it suggests that the piece of music was written and is performed in gratitude for receiving God's love.

Actually, watching the video, you see that is about all the things (good and bad) humans do, in the name of God (or if you will, "For The Love Of God").....

I forgot about the video, RAI. Its a bleaker interpretation than mine though.

I can't believe you guys have got this so wrong. Let me explain.

The song title is an interpretation of impatience.

Such as:

"For the love of God, will you just release a new album."

or

"For the love of God, hurry up with the website updates."

or

"For the love of God, enough of the VaiTunes...how about a proper song?"

or

"For the love of God, when is my Secret Jewel Box going to be worth keeping?"

or

"For the love of God, when are you going to add another letter to that album wall....it's been about a month since the last one....surely you could just complete the 'THE' and that would allow us to start the guessing game, which would potentially at least create some form of interest on this website?"

That's what it means.

I'm here all week.

So inside the j card and also possibly the cd cover Steve does give an explanation in the song lyrics. Anyone able to find a link to that?
