Building the Church Live Tapping Solo

#1 Post by Mattw » Sat Aug 15, 2009 11:25 am

I'd like to try and learn how to play this properly. The Live version seems quite different to the studio version and the official book doesn't even write it out for tapping. Now that the trailer for Where The Wild Things Are is out has anyone managed to write this version out correctly?

Building The Church has been on DVD since G3 Live in Tokyo. Recorded and released in 2005.

True and a lot of the solo is shown close up but the cameras do switch a few times so it is difficult to make it all out. With the new preview trailer the camera is close up all the way through but I'm still struggling to follow which string is hammered on every fret and to get the order. Sometimes it is one note after another, sometimes double stops with both hands and sometimes chords. Sometimes with multiple hammers they are on the same fret sometimes one or two frets apart - very confusing! :?

You should be able to find an accurate tab on http://www.powertab.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. The PTA is now reopened.

By the way, the book for Real Illusions: Reflections is utter crap. One of the tracks (Under It All, I think) is arranged for a guitar in "B" tuning; obviously Steve played it on a 7 string in the studio. Most of the other transcriptions are inaccurate, too.

Yeah I always buy the books but ironically the the power tab version of "Under it all" I found today is accurate and arranged correctly for a 7 string! I'm hoping that the "little black dots" transcriptions when they arrive will be accurate and will fix some of the other errors in the official books.
