Just a quick quesiton regarding the "Green Meanie":

It's got a Bones sticker on the pickguard. Is this the same Bones Bearings logo? Did Steve used to skate back in the day?

It's a question thats been bugging me and any ideas would be great

The guitar used in the filming for Crossroads is on Display at the Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi, also with Mr Vai's signature on it, On top of the guitar one of his elaborate performance outfits is also displayed :)

Hey all,
I'm new to the board and wanted to say hello and throw this at ya....
I always heard that the Red guitar in question was in fact from a company called "Performance guitar" I remember seeing ads from them around that time period and they were tossing Steves name around as an endorser/user...

Strat.

What about the Tele?

Was it Ry's Cooder's? Where is it?

I bought the sound track to the film for the last track E.T.B. When I was kid.

Wasn't on there but the blues were great. :D

I think it's a San Dimas body with a Jackson neck.

I've been a hardcore Jackson fan for a while. The body is a little round for a Dinky, and the Soloist was exclusively a neck-through or set-neck model.

So that's my story. Jackson neck/headstock, Charvel body.

I want to let you guys know about that Crossroads guitar. I had one. The only difference was that mine had a single coil pickup in the center. The color is called LIPSTICK RED. and its a 1998 model I bought one that year because my son was born that year. the model number was RG270. I hope this helps its as close to that guitar as your going to find I gave mine to my brother-in-law to learn on and he still has it. Right now i have and Artcore red burst , Schecter C-1 classic, and a dime-o-flag but i mainly play my IB Working on Creating my Amorphous Guitar. Maybe Steve can help me decide what color?Signed Jason D. Decker Port Hueneme Ca. p.s. Steve Thank you for Liberty. First song i ever learned I have been playing for over 20 yrs and without you i would have never kept playing. Thank you Steve. God Bless.

I've returned to this thread over and over throughout the years, each time I go on a mission to finally solve to mystery of exactly which guitar Steve played in the movie Crossroads. I've seen conflicting information here and everywhere else. I want to share a couple of things I've noticed.

1. The guitar in the move has two humbuckers.

2. The guitar in the movie has one knob and one pickup selector switch.

If you go here http://www.charvelusa.com/charvel_model_series.html you can see all of the model 1-6 guitars put out by Charvel. The one most closely resembling the red one in the movie is model 1. Model 1 has what look like a maple fret board, 22 frets, the same pointy and slanted head stock, 22 frets, black tremelo bar and black pearl inlays.

None of the other models have as many similarities, plus some of them came out after 1986.

Now the problem is that the guitar in the movie has two humbuckers and a toggle switch. The model 1 doesn't have a toggle switch because there is only one pickup.

It makes sense that Vai would use a model 1 because they were the cheapest, and his scene called for dropping the guitar, which may have been done over and over again. It's hard to imagine that Vai would have a model 1 customized to have another humbucker and a toggle switch if he's going to be dropping it like that in the movie.

Earlier in this thread someone talked about the guitar hanging up at the Hard Rock. That one has 24 frets and I saw it on youtube. Can't be the same one.

What is the consensus in 2017?

Saw it there last year. Steve had autographed it & it had a noticeable crack.
