i am looking to get a peavey xxx or 5150 . I have played the xxx and like it alot but i am also considering the 5150, i am not a huge van hallen fan but i do like his sound and i have never had the oportunity to play a 5150. So i was wondering if anyone here could provide me with a clip of thiers or a band that plugs stright in the amp. Any and all help is great. thanks

I have A 5150II head and matching quad. I love mine to bits, the lead channel sings, and the clean channel can actually play clean despite what people say. I would advise play it first. On the 5150 you only get one EQ to control both channels where as on the mark II you get 2 independant EQs and I have them set VERY different from one another.
Sorry I cant comment on the XXX but have heard great things about it, and its looks pretty cool.

I've only got the 5150 combo, but that thing pumps out some serious sound. Like Dave said, the clean channel is as clean as you need for rock, it's pretty clean anyway in my opinion, but anyway, the lead channel is just insane. From little gain, to so much it's a joke. Haha

oh and who was that other guy who used it...? wasn't it EVH? :P

oh and Devin too.

also... they're not making 5150's any more, is that right? if you see a new one around for the right price you might just want to stash it under your bed and hopefully it'll appreciate pretty well.

it is no longer the 5150 but the 6505 and for the 5150II, 6505 plus.

i think i can get a 5150 for about 600 if not a little less but as for the xxx it is a bit higher used. If i could save some cash that would be great but if the situation comes i would like to go ahead and shell out more to happy with what i get, the 5150 seems to be what i am looking for.

I played on a 5150 amp at a music store in Austin, Texas. I was blown away by the sound it produced.

well i finally ended up with a peavey xxl. It has everything i wanted and needed. IT is the loudest solid state amp i have ever played , i had it set to 25 watt output and had it turned to about 5 and i was rattling pictures off the walls and the crappy speakers i have were having a hard time with the bass, and the cab is rated for 100 watts. I am very happy with it, plus it is a soild state so no tubes to deal with and i dont have to have it cranked to get the full body and dynamics of the sound. I can say that i will use peavey for a while and if i ever get a good wind fall i still may look into getting a 5150 combo, i dont think that it would let me down and i dont think i would have been disapointed in the 5150 head but i think the xxl is more of what i needed.

If anyopne would like a sound clip of the amp i have a few and would be more than happy to send one to you if you pm me your e-mail address.

the 5150 can pump some serious watts for sure
i was at a local concert and there was a dude with a boss ds-1 adn his 5150 combo(ihe said "200 watts" but they arent that big in combo) and he was keepin up with a fat marshal (the one with all the little gold modeling nobes) so it can pump watts on comand, and also sounds pretty good!

the 5150 produces a sound that feels like being kicked in the stomach.. in a very, VERY, beautiful way :D it's just a plain badass amp ;)
