Lets talk headphones

#1 Post by Blake Dunford » Sat Jan 04, 2014 12:35 pm

Hey everyone
I'm looking at getting a good quality set of headphones for practicing and recording.

What is everyone using ?

Any suggestions ?

AKG K-271 (mkII is the current version) can't really be beat for recording, though they're a bit flat if you also want to use them for casual listening.

I use those in the studio for recording and most of the mixing, and then Audiotechnica ATH-M50s for final mixing/mastering and general music listening (they're a bit more pleasant in the bass response for "final mix" type things, but the slightly increased bass response does obscure some of the mids/highs that you'd want to be cognizant of during recording and mixing).

I use a Bose AE-2

They sound great- but I have them because they are the MOST comfortable in the world.

That's all that should matter too- you shouldn't do any mixing with headphones

You shouldn't finalize any mixes with just headphones, sure - but some of us gotta get this work done in less-than-ideal circumstances. :)
