that's true-
most amps today are garbage

Marshall for example is running on their reputation from the 60s and 80s

They've made one decent amp (dsl) since the 1980s.

They don't even solider shit to the board- grab a new marshall and shake it- there's probably stuff floating around the chassis.

Mesa's are good but their tubes aren't like they used to be...

A lot of line6/fender amps aren't good values for the prices they are

The only reason I'd ever get an Axe-FX II would be for it's fx, I definitely wouldn't get one for the tones and amp modelling, you just can't beat the real thing, no matter how much money you spend on it. That being said my current amp is a Marshall AVT100 which I confess hasn't really been used at all this year as I'm using Guitar Rig 5 for most of my recording until I can afford a new one.

I'd say first- the preamps in the axe are truely that good...and with FW10 coming out they're only getting better (the samples are insane)

people can't tell the difference between a real amp and an axe2- or a tube preamp vs an axe 2

BUT i perfer real mesas for mesas and real marshalls for marshalls

so this is what i use it for-
Soldano, Bogner, Diezel, Vox and Friedman

any of those amps are $2000 (except vox) and i look at it as getting all the rest for free because you can't tell the difference on the SLO100 or Friedman HBE, VH4 etc

they've done quizzes/tests all over the forum for years- people can't tell

also the preamps behave natural - so if i used the axe just as a preamp- slaved it into a real amp/cab you couldn't tell the preamp didn't come from the head itself...

take a JVM- (i hate it but its a good example) if i plugged the JVM model of the axe into the fx loop of a real JVM it's impossible to tell the difference between the real thing and the axe preamp wise-

I've tried- and all over the forum people are tricking eachother

Well then maybe it's just me being old fashioned like that :) I'd much prefer a stack with a head and rack case full of pedals/effect units than a Furman, Axe-FX II & a cab... looks cooler!
