LEGACY PROBLEMS

#1 Post by R1FSR » Sat Aug 14, 2010 9:51 am

Hi Guys

I own a legacy half stack that was used by Steve on the ultra zone tour
(if im correct) wich ive had for about 5-6 years now without any problems
at all, awesome tone and sound and as far as i know it is completely standard
other than different valves .

recently when being used at any volume on the lead channel the volume will dip
dramaticaly buzz a lot then go back up to normal , it keeps doing this regular now,
Ive swapped the valves again and it still does it .

now naturally i dont want to take it to local misic shop and have some spotty
faced kid mess around with it lol .

has anybody else had this problem at all ...or even got any idea what might be causing it ??

many thanks

I had this problem as well, except that after the volume dip, buzzing came after every pick attack.

I think what i did was swap out one of the preamp tubes for a new one and all was good again.

A good tech with a multi meter should be able to isolate the fault.

I´ve had a similar problem. My sound lost much gain and when I struck the strings very hard it came back up to normal. It was an effects jack that was broken. I´d check all the cables and play the Legacy straight in.

Get one new pre amp tube
and switch it out with each- one by one and try it out after every switch

when it goes away- problem solved.

Ive tried swapping all the valves ...even one at a time ,
checked each pot and switch ...
every input and output works fine ...
even tried different guitars , leads , cables and cabs
but the volume still drops out and then eventually comes back on .

:( :(

It's a long shot but you could try cleaning the tube sockets. Do this by spraying some contact cleaner in all of the socket holes, or on all of the tube spikes, and then move the tubes in and out of the sockets several times. Wait for the contact cleaner to evaporate before turning on the amp (shouldn't be more than a few minutes).

Unfortunately, I have this same problem on one of mine. From what I've read, it could also be a faulty output transformer.

I know this thread is a little old, but I had the same problem with a Legacy combo. I ended up putting a patch chord from the effects loop send to the effects loops return. Usually I run effects in the loop, but if I have it going "dry," then I have to use the patch chord technique. Apparently, this isn't just a "Carvin" issue either. I've had my combo for 6 years now and have never had an issue other than that and that seem to fix it. Hope that helps, albeit a little late I'm sure.

Take Care!
