NEW TUBE AMP!

#1 Post by Instrumentalrockrocks » Tue Aug 26, 2008 11:55 am

look what I got today:
Fender Super Champ XD (with two 6V6 tubes and one 12AX7 tube)

it's got a vioce knob on it... so you have different sound types:

This little amp sounds very good when you crank it way up (wich is very VERY loud for a 15 watt amp)
I like the combination of a small amp with tubes...

whattaya think about it?

For only €260,- (in US probably available for about $350,-) it is quite a cheap tough great sounding and quite versatile amp

I considered this amp when i was looking, i have to say its a little cracker...i do know a couple of guys who have one and they swear by em. In the end i went for a custom built amp, but this was a very close second for bedroom practice. Guitarist magazine favoured this amp very much.

i havn't play this particular amp but i do enjoy the other tube amps that fender makes . I really like the hot rod delux but usually like a little different gain voicing. The mesa stilleto line is ultimate tone for me.

Its amazing Fender can make all those different tones just by twiddling a knob!

I have to be honest... they're not al usuable but at least 13 of 16 vioces... that seems (even without considering it's price tag) to me fair enough

and yes it is excellent for practice and eventually for some recording too...

I have the original one and it sounds really great. Excellent spring reverb.

Thanks for the congratz

The clean sound is great on channel 1 and the vioces 1, 2, 15 and 16 on channel 2. Vioce 1 and 15 are once again great for jazz tones and vioce 2 ads a little bit of overdrive on the mix. Vioce 16 is actually based on the Fender Acoustasonic and it's great for acoustic guitar or single coiled guitars.

I really enjoyed the vioce 11, 12 and 14 on this amp. Those are great tube driven overdrive vioces.

11 is a bit like a slightly overdriven marshall amp and 12 is even sounding more like a high gain marshall amp sound... once you crank the amps volume up on level 4/5 and you put the gain knob on 7 it really sounds great! A high gain tube driven overdrive sound with much sustain ---> like a Gary Moore gain sound: great for solo's!

The onboard effects are good too: you got the choice of three reverbs:
a room, a spring reverb and a hall reverb.
four chorus modes: slow middle fast and chorus+reverb
tremolo effects: 3 of them
and a great sounding vibrato for the kind of sound Clapton used on his album "Pilgrim" ads a mystical feeling to songs
