it's been discussed before, but i asked joe about the xxx heads:

joe said he had custom XXX heads built by james brown at peavey ..

channel 1 - cleaner and fuller than his 6100.
channel 2, 'crunch' - the guts from a peavey classic 50 re-voiced a bit.
channel 3, 'ultra' - the original XXX crunch channel with the gain backed off a bit and custom voiced.
no ds-1.

i'm so stoked that joe's discovered tubes all over again ;-) His sound was phe-frickin-NOMENAL. the best i've EVER heard from him. My buddy Ethn and I were staring at each other in shock over how crisp EVERYTHING was. stuff you'd never have heard otherwise. Joe was ON!

I'd have to agree. His tone was smokin at the G3 show I just saw. It seemed better than the previous times I'd seen him too.

On Thursday, Joe told me that there was one more modification to make on the peavey head, to get a certain bass frequency he was after.

The amp is fully customized so that he doesn't have to use a ds-1 distortion pedal anymore. It's an all-in-wonder head.

And yes, he's now a peavey endorsee

And yes, it will be available to the public.
He also told me the amp would make its debut at NAMM.

Those Peavey Classic amps....those things are everywhere in some shape or another.

I've got to wonnder whether the model will make production. I've always dug Joes sound and would probably plunk the cake down for something with that much versatility.

im not satriani himself, but im assuming its an endrosment.

if some company came up to you and said "well give you 50 stacked peavy amps" free, of course your gonna do it.

Eh.....Joe's been decently picky about endorsing things. The fact that there hasn't been a "Joe Satriani Model" amp is a bit of a testament to this. Aside from Ibanez and Dimarzio he's remained pretty free of them.

oh, by al means dont get me wrong. :) i never meant anyuthing like hes an "endorsment whore", or a sellout.
I think the exact opposite.

i was just saying how if someone offers you like 50 stacked amps or so for free, youll atleast try them out. maybe he liked them. ?? :D

either way joes good. 8)

This post is 10 years old now...

I wanted to mention something pretty cool
I OWN THIS AMP NOW
I am the proud new owner of 1 of the 2 James Brown made Peavey XXX amps used by Satriani on the G3 tour and in the studio...
James himself confirmed authenticity and sent me additional photos...

Just wanted to share
