Has anyone tried the digitech wh-1, wh-4 or preferably both?

Hi, I'm interested in buying a whammy pedal but I would like to know what are the differences between the wh-1 and the wh-4, I know steve plays the wh-1, is it a lot better than the wh-4?

thanks.

well the wh1s are going for like $600 used, whereas the wh4s are going for about $150 used

the sweep on the wh1 is supposedly smoother, the detune effect is better
the wh4 has the divebomb effect....and holding onto $400 sure is a very nice thing

I think the tracking on WH4 is ment to be better calibrated in reference to pitch. Don't quote me on it though. I think I read it in passing on a review.

Is the wh-1 worth the difference in money in relation to the wh-4?

My opinion of it would be that WH1 would probably retain a tonal character of it's own, based on it's build quality components. It's these components that gives the WH1 it's character & warmth.
In this case certian components & build factors..(the place, the machine, resistors.) may not be able to be recreated to WH1 original spec.

I learnt this again of late when Andy Timmons was trying out Roger Mayer's pedals. Exact same models being tested but each with a slight tonal variation.
Sound good..nop....sound good...bit better....sound good..YERrr that's the one!!!

It's almost the same deal with the WH1's. All will have a slight & only a slight variations but they are there.

WH4 was a chance to update the product. Many factors that joe blow wouldn't be aware of. Cut cost here...add that....changes this.

To all to all intensive purposes the WH4 is a better pedal in terms of sound
design & crispness.

However does it retain the warmth of WH1? I doubt it. This is hence the reason why the pedal will rise in price. Remember the WH4 is calibrated to sound like the WH1. Digitech have done an amazing job.

Is it worth the money? Only you can tell.

WH1
Warmth. High Cost, tracking maybe an osilascope off.

WH4
Not as warming,track's far better,more option,cheaper.

Mite have to dig this out. This is all off the top of my head.

there you have it! nothing ´bout warmness at all....I hate it when people use the word warm comparing those two pedals :D. No offense though, just kidding!
