Right now, I use D'Addario XL 7-string (9 guage) strings. I use either D'Addario, DR strings, or Ernie Ball strings... as long as they are 9 guage. I really don't notice any difference in tone or playablility in different brands really, I use whatever is available at the stores.

Cheers!

I have an Ibanez RG on the way, I think they ship the guitar with .09's... what brand and size strings should I use for my RG... what's good to use with an RG with an Edge III tremolo that seem to last? All my other guitars have fixed bridges, so I don't have to really worry about strings breaking as much as they already do (I play too much which =buying more strings pretty much every week...I can't be the only one who plays too much, especially on Vai's forum!?) But, someone let me know what strings are good for an Ibanez RG with an Edge III tremolo... I hear Ernie Ball strings last longer than most... I used to use Ernie Ball and then just switched over to Dean's...

I use Elixir 9-42s. Best strings, in my opinion. Really long life, they feel absolutely wonderful to play, and, most importantly, they've got great tone.

I just hate the shedding skin thing.

Shedding skin? You mean the coating on the strings? I don't have a problem with it at all, to be honest.
