OK, thanks for that useful piece of information (!) It's obviously just a coincidence then. I haven't looked at any of the diary pics so wouldn't know that. But I'm sure there was a discussion on here recently and there was a quotation from someone from some band saying 'Vai shoots himself in the foot all the time'. It was talking about his music. And people were getting pissed off about that comment... never mind.

Wow, what a pointless thing this is to discuss.

It was an interesting blog, anyway! :)

Sitting next to SV at a show, well I was kind of close.
In NYC at the town hall (the early show of 2) a couple years ago on the reflections tour
Steves mom got seated in the row and seat right in front of me.
Proud mom V made the whole show, it was one for the ages.

Someone needs to explain Tom Waits appeal to me. Not saying it's not great music, I just don't get it.

I also don't get it, but I really like it for some reason. I think that's all that matters.

I'm just beginning to discover Tom Waits and I can say that for me there's something primal and pure about the simplicity and power in his music. His lyrics are poetic and constantly challenging the listener. It's probably not for everyone much in the same way Steve's music is challenging and not for everyone. You never know where he's coming from or where he's going but the way he puts it together it makes perfect sense.

I second that one, Jon. My dad is a huge Tom Waits fan, and I remember listening to him from when I was a little kid. His lyrics and music are beautiful, but I remember my dad saying that his music isn't for everyone. It's definitely for me. :D

Tom is one of very few bread that just oozes creative goodness.

There is no inbetween you either are a rabid fan or not.

He has never sold out in anyway. Continues to value authenticity and intellectual property more than anyone. He has sued several times and won for brands attempting to exploit his music.

Search the internet he just interviewed himself for god's sake and it was a perfect interview.

His voice is not perfect, but he has continued to make sounds and records that can not be compared or mistaken for anyone else.

I saw him 99 in NYC and paid big money and It was the best show I have ever seen. and if you think the noise and the industrial sounds are contrived, he will melt your heart with a piano only version of ruby's arms.

FUCKING GENIUS!
