Jeff Beck w/ Jools Holland

#1 Post by precario » Tue May 11, 2010 5:54 pm

Hey guys, how are you all doing ?

So, I was playing my guitar here, just trying to imitate some licks by the great players, and I stuck on this one. It's Jeff Beck with Jools Holland and some other people playing Drown In My Own Tears.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzOVknyRNP8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

While I was playing, I noticed that both Pentatonic Minor in C# and in E sound good over this track, with the blue notes too.
This made me really curious ! How can the same scale on two different tones work well at the same time ?

PS: total theory noob speaking here

Why don't you give us the chord progression and maybe then we could help out?
I'm too lazy to figure it out myself

EDIT: So that you guys know, I'm not a complete noob on theory, but I just have a grasp on the real basics.

I could just find this Ray Charles progression, but it looks like being the same:

A aug
It brings a

D Aaug D D7 G Abdim
tear into my eyes, When I begin, To realize,

D F#m Bm Em7 A7 Aaug
I`ve cried so much, Since you`ve been gone, I guess I`m drowning in my own tears,

D Aaug D D7 G Abdim
I sit and cry, Just like a child My pouring tears Are runnin` wild

D F#m Bm Em7 A7
If you don`t think You`ll be home soon I guess I`ll drown in my own tears

G Abdim D A7 D D7
I know it`s true Into each life Some rain, rain must pour

G Abdim Em7 A7
I`m so blue Here without you It keeps raining More and more

D Aaug D D7 G Abdim
Why don`t you Come on home Oh yes so I won`t Be all alone

D F#m Bm
If you don`t think You`ll be home soon I guess I`ll

D G
(drown in my own tears) Ooh, don`t let me

D G
(drown in my own tears) When I`m in trouble, baby

D G
(drown in my own tears) Oh, yeah, baby don`t let me

D G
(drown in my own tears)

D A7 D
I guess I`ll drown in my own tears.

(hope this helps)
