I just tried it, and by sheer acident I've found that on almost all runs where I'd be playing 3 notes a tone apart from each other, I'll use that fingering anyway.

THe reason its easier is just because it keeps your palm parallel to the fretboard, whereas 124 fingering forces your hand to twist.

The 1 finger per fret rule is actually

1 finger per fret PLUS the index can reach 1 fret lower down out of that position

and the pinky can reach 1 fret higher up out of that position

 :| :guitar  8)

Sorry, but read carefully my first post from page 1.

what you say about the one finger per fret is of course true and (to me) slightly off topic.

nothing personal I'm purrrty much pissed off at almost anything this week,

peace out,

:peace

i'd say i'm comfortable with using which ever finger (middle, ring and pinky) is closest to the
fret after I have planted the root (index/first finger)

it's still very much the 1 finger per fret principle really

index middle and pinky...... If your going 20 - 22 - 24 my next instinct is definitely to go down to the 19 - 20 - 22 shape so you wanna have those fingers ready to go! But just do whatevers easiest for you
